A Fabulous Short Break at The Wide Mouthed Frog

We had a fabulous 2-night stay at The Wide Mouthed Frog. Co-located with Dunstaffnage marina, the restaurant/bar enjoys breathtaking views over the marina, the castle, the bay and the isles. It is situated in a handy location on the A85, a few minutes drive from Oban. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean with a large en-suite that had a great power shower. The food was delicious with breakfast and dinner freshly prepared and cooked to your choice. Although, the mandatory Covid precautions are being enforced, the staff and owners still managed to afford us a warm welcome and went out of their way to cater for our needs. They are operating a limited dinner menu but will cook any dish not listed on the menu, if notified of your preference before midday. Rick (Eric) and Cath were truly outstanding hosts and strived to make our stay as perfect as possible. Bobby and Siobhan were absolutely fabulous restaurant/bar/reception staff who made us feel at home with their warm sense of humour and helpful, friendly demeanor. Other staff, who worked behind the scenes, also helped make our stay memorable. Our elderly, well-behaved spaniel was also warmly welcomed and joined us in the bar/restaurant for drinks and food - this pet-friendly attitude was particularly appreciated by us. Overall, we had a top experience at The Wide Mouthed Frog and highly recommend it for it’s wonderful hosts/staff, delicious homemade food, great bar and clean, comfortable rooms.

Our stay was over four days, made to feel most welcome with nothing to much trouble for the owner and staff. Food was excellent with the option of choice other than the menu providing you are prepared to give the staff time to order and get it in fresh, just ask. The place was clean and aware of the Covid virus requirements and the safety of customers. Lovely outlook from our room (no.5) to the harbour and hills beyond. Thank you all at W.M.F. for a great stay. Only one place for us if we return to Oban.

Nice large bedroom, excellent bathroom. Interesting window shapes, just like a yacht sail, and curtain raised as on a sailing dinghy, by a haliyard.

Dogs very welcome

It is lovely to be made welcome alongside your dog and be allowed to bring them into meals. Tasty Scottish breakfast set us up well for the day. The Marina is eye-catching, do take the time to walk around the bay to the castle on the point. It is about 1.5 miles each way and the grounds are evocative even during the castle’s closed hours.

A very friendly hotel. The rooms are large and clean but on a rainy day the treck to the rooms along a rugged path with rat traps and litter was a little off putting especially after dark. I am disabled so this was also a problem as steep outdoor steps were also a disadvantage. We had dinner and breakfast which was good value. Both the kettle and tv did not work.

AGREABLE SURPRISE

Un peu de doute en arrivant devant l'hotel mais ce fut une surprise plutot agreable certes c'est pas le grand luxe mais c'est propre les chambres sont grandes le petit dejeuner de qualité pour un prix plutôt bas pour OBAN fin juin l'emplacement est plutot sympa sur la marina un petit coup de nettoyage et de rangement à l'exterieur ferait pas de mal

The room was a bit small but comfortable and quiet. The marina is lovely and we enjoyed sitting out on the patio after dinner. The staff is friendly and the food at the restaurant is delicious! It’s a few miles away from Oban, which suited us. A bit pricey, but we would stay here again.
