The stone-paved pedestrian paths of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka lead to artisan shops selling handcrafted ceramics and silk. Traditional tea houses invite visitors to experience authentic Japanese culture. Several train and metro stations make exploring this historic neighborhood and beyond surprisingly convenient.

Arashiyama

Step into historic Arashiyama where traditional Japan comes alive along the scenic Hozu River. The famous bamboo grove creates ethereal green corridors while the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge stands as a timeless landmark. Ancient temples and shrines dot the landscape, offering glimpses into Kyoto's rich cultural heritage. This peaceful district invites exploration beyond the main attractions. Catch a scenic ride on the Sagano Romantic Train or visit the playful residents at Monkey Park Iwatayama. Several train stations make getting around simple, while riverside walks reveal traditional tea houses and artisan shops selling handcrafted bamboo souvenirs.

Nishijin

Nishijin is a destination travelers like for its coffeehouses, and you might hop aboard the metro at Imadegawa Station or Kuramaguchi Station to explore sights like Nishijin Textile Center.

Hotel Granvia Kyoto

10/10 Excellent
"Hotel Granvia Kyoto is a very nice, clean, and exceptionally well-positioned hotel. The location is excellent, with plenty of food, entertainment, and shopping nearby. The amenities felt somewhat lacking from a Western perspective. Having to pay an additional fee to use the gym, for example, seems unusual compared with typical U.S. hotel standards. The biggest disappointment was the condition of the corridors, which were not particularly clean and had a noticeable cigarette smell. That detracted from an otherwise very pleasant stay. Admittedly, some of these impressions may reflect differences between Japanese and U.S. hotel standards. Staff was excellent and very accomodating"
