Campton Kiyomizu is a traditional Japanese hotel conveniently located in the old town center of Kyoto. There was a near-by grocery store open 24 hours, which we frequented, and taxis were always available. The rooms were spacious, beds comfortable, and all areas were very clean. It even had a washing machine. They gave us comfortable pajamas which we ended up purchasing. Our host, Masao, provided outstanding service, accommodating our every need, including coordinating the luggage transfer to our next hotel. The hotel was prompt and clear in their communication. I can’t praise this hotel enough - it really made our stay in Kyoto that much more memorable. We were so content in this hotel that we didn’t want to leave. I highly recommended this hotel and would not hesitate booking it again for future travels to Kyoto.

The location of the hotel is amazing, right next to a very popular photography spot in Gion. Because of this, expect some noises as there are always photographers outside around the clock. Washer dryer is really convenient. The rooms are very well maintained. Short walk to many stores and shops in Gion.

The location of the hotel is on a beautiful street with views of Yasaka Pagoda. We felt fortunate to see it every time we left or came back. The room had everything we needed and more. Masao was extremely kind and responsive to all our requests. He helped us with our luggage transfer and taxi arrangements. We highly recommend Campton Kiyomizu. We will be coming back!

Well supplied kitchen. Good amount of space given the location. Quiet. Lots of tourists in kimonos taking pictures in the street. Near Starbucks and other coffee shops. On historic street. Most difficult issue is getting bags to hotel. Taxi drop off is a few blocks away as street is small, old picturesque and crowded. This means dragging suitcases or strollers a short distance to transportation.

Great hotel in an ideal location. A staff member met us and took us to our room to check us in. The unit had two bedrooms and a large living room area for eating and television. Beautiful room. First of all, the manager there gave us excellent services and made us very comfortable. He even waited for our taxi in the rain for us. Room is situated in the most pictured location of sannen zaka. Room was very clean and specious. Can’t think of better place to stay in Kyoto.

Very good location. Very easy check in. Ryokan feeling when food ordered and brought in. Like a condo. Bathroom upstairs and down. Very touristy area. So if you have problems with crowds, you won't like it. If you like to be in the middle of it, it's great. Cabs may not make it to the property (crowds), so you may have to walk your luggage the last few hundred meters. We liked the location, didn't mind the crowds.

Amazing place, very authentic, and it has everything you need in the kitchen/bathroom/laundry. Good communication and help from the staff. The area is very busy (and the unit doesn’t have good sound insulation) but at night is quiet and great for walking around/photography. No taxi access so it requires a bit of a walk to the street. The Japanese breakfast was good but it gets old after a couple of days so we had to switch to western breakfast (which is served 5min away so that was a bit inconvenient). Great experience overall.

We absolutely loved our stay at Campton Kiyomizu 5 and were so glad we chose this location. It was perfect for our family of 4, esp with little kids. The area is so crowded otherwise and we loved walking around in the mornings and evenings once the whole area quiet down. The beauty of Kyoto is in the old architecture so it was special staying in the historical part of town rather than any swanky hotel. The apartment was clean and we paid extra for daily cleaning. Any concerns were immediately addressed and it truly felt like a great stay where we would unwind at the end of the day. Keep in mind that you will need to pay extra for additional bedding for kids. The vegetarian Japanese breakfast was nice as well- great to try different items that we had never tried before.

Right in the heart of

Location is a tourist attraction so if you enjoy walking out of the accommodation right into shops and crowds, it is perfect. The design of the room itself is wonderful and a great experience. I do think the room needs a thorough cleaning as there is dust in a lot of unused but visible areas. Floors need a good scrub too. Not the usual kind of impeccable Japanese cleanliness I am used to. The one downfall is having to lug your luggage from the street all the way to the accommodation. It’s not an easy feat. I really wish they can offer a better solution for guests.

You will not find a more picturesque location in Gion. In fact, I suspect that directly out the front door might be one of the most photographed streets in all of Kyoto. As we would go out for the day there were always people having professional photos as well as doing amateur photography directly out our door. It's stunning - and even more so at night when most of the tourism has died down. And the apartment itself was exceptional - very traditional and spacious, but with some westernization (such as a regular table and western bed in the downstairs). If I return to Kyoto I'd definitely want to stay here again. It's difficult to imagine a better place in terms of its historic location, beauty, many restaurants nearby, and the apartment itself). The only thing is that if you have mobility issues this might not be the best place for you. It's on a very narrow street that cabs shouldn't really go up, so if going to other parts of town you'll want to walks 3-5 blocks to get to a more regular street to catch a cab.

Amazing location, room 1 had view of Yasaka Pagoda right outside the window. Units were very comfortable and had everything we needed, small kitchen, laundry and wonderful bathroom with soaking tubs. Staff was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. We stayed with kids and another family. One thing to note, because of tourist crowding on the street it’s not possible for taxi/uber to get right to the hotel, you need to walk a bit to get there. Fine for us but just something to know.
