Stayed 6 nights. They didn’t clean room nor toilet. No fresh towel. We had to ask them to clean toilet and fresh towels. We had to change garbage can in room and clean up ourselves each day. Room has no window. We stayed in three person room as a couple. No way it would fit 3. Room is extremely basic. But location is excellent. Close to trains, bus and tons of affordable good food and Sento nearby. It is more like a hostel and should not be advertised as a hotel.
Sophiearth is ...only ideal if travelling on a budget, and being based in Shin-Okubo it's a convenient location to easily get to other places in Tokyo, like Shinjuku and Akihabara. The coin laundry works very well.
Great location, good price for somewhere in Shinjuku. It is not super pretty, but has everything you need. Shower was hot, bed was soft and comfortable. The room was non smoking but easily accessible smoking area is in the common area.
Liked it all, valve for money was happy with the room, shower pressure was great as well which is always a plus.

Our room didn't look like the one in the photo. We had two beds along the wall, each of which had two roll out beds underneath. When they were pulled out, it was hard to access the bathroom without stepping on one of the beds. It was fine because we were only in the room for sleeping and were out sightseeing otherwise, but would not be the most comfortable place to hang out in.
Check in was fast and easy. Fairly close to 2 train stations on different lines, so that was pretty convenient. Was an ok price for Tokyo.
I took a budget place because I wanted to spend most of the time out of the room. This place is very well located, in the center of Shinjuku. The rooms are little. The insulation is not what we are accustomed to in Europe or in the US. If there is noise outside, you will notice. Nonetheless, if you are aware of the condifions to begin with, you won't be disappointed. Personnally, it matches all the boxes I needed and I had a fun trip with my family.

Fast and efficicient check in. Bad smell coming from the shower drain. We covered the drain with a plastic bag and it was fine.
As a last minute reservation since my Airbnb was small for the amount of people we booked for. I stumble upon this property, at first I wasn’t expecting nothing big. However upon first impression. This was the perfect size for person. This hotel allowed me to come sleep, than hit the street of Japan. This hotel is in prime location, everything is very walk able. Overall I love it. Will for sure look for posting when I come back to Japan

Very helpful and friendly staff.
The outside seating areas smelled of cigarettes and the room smelled of dryer sheets or something.
They had a very nice laundry machine and commercial dryer, but it was outside and didn't have a combination lock.
A little bit of a walk to the train station but not bad and lots happening in terms of interesting shops along the walk. Lots of nice restaurants and shops near the place too.
It was listed as a room for two, with two beds but it looked like there were two more fold-out beds in the room if needed and bedded for four was in the room.
Door locks were a combination.
Wi-fi worked fine.
Toilet, sink, and shower were all in separate rooms, which would be nice if you had a bunch of kids or something.
2 or 3 steps in the room to get up to the bath.
Great and convenient location not far from three train/subway stations but no cleaning service in rooms during our five day stay. Had to ask for clean towels 3 times. Quiet neighbourhood except for people entering and exiting adjacent room at all hours.
Overpriced for a two star hotel at best.
Hallways are dirty and run down. Rooms were clean but in desperate need of renovation. Beds are squeaky and pillows less than flat. Lesson learned. Caveat emptor.
WARNING BEWARE OF ROOM 5 AND M5!!
PLEASE, for the love of god, reconsider staying here. This was by far the worst hostel experience we had in Japan. The day we arrived they let us check in an hour early, which we thought was awesome. The room heavily smelt of bleach, so we left the bedroom window open. We left to go sightseeing for the entire day and came back late at night. It was a cold night, so the heaters had been turned on, enhancing the smell of mould. We were horrified. It’s hard to explain just how damp and mouldy this place smelt! We started really looking at the room and realised the shower had black mould growing in the silicone. From what we could tell, they had plastered the shower in cheap wall paper to hide how run down it truly was. When you poked some parts of the wall paper, it buckled inwards. It was around 11pm at this point, I was having a hard time sleeping, so I went to the service desk, Hoping, praying, they would have another room. The man managing the service desk acted shocked when I told him about the mould. How could you miss it?! I suggested for him to come take a look, so he followed me to the room. The man looked around the shower, pointing out the mould and poking the walls like we had. He tugged at the silicone in the shower and started to pull it up. Looking at the mould behind the silicone was nauseating so I left the bathroom. The man said he could not help us and that we had to wait till 7am to talk to the manager of sophiearth. I clos
genuinely this place is awful do not stay here. stay at bali an thats nearby and cheaper. bali an is wayyy cleaner, has great amenities, space, and most of all feels safer. this place was like a dungeon. i chose this place due to its proximity to shinjuku station but its not worth it. heed my warning. stay at the bali an hotel thats nearby. its like $80/night there vs this place being $100/ a night
there was a cockroach in our room, the door was not properly fitted in the doorframe and there was legit a hole someone could peek into thats right across the bathroom in the room.
it was just such an awful stay, the AC stank like mold and was dripping stinky water, the walls felt sticky, truly DO NOT STAY HERE
the towels provided were dirty asf, the bed sheets felt gross, like it was honestly just so bad.
