"Great little property, we were a little off season so the rooftop area wasn’t open. Our patio tub was lovely and the place is comfy and clean and easy walking distance to shops and testaurants"

"The hotel is up a steep sloping street and in a quiet area. It has a traditional feel and the cafe is really nice and the hot springs, however there is no view, unless you pay for the private baths upstairs. The whole place could use a bit of a facelift, but more of an issue was the lack of service and the quality of the food, particularly dinner. We arrived too late for the 6:30 seating and was given the 7:00 p.m. seating. Clearly the appetizer box had been sitting out for a long time and...

"What a delightful hostel with ryoken style rooms and a beautiful onsen. The views were also wonderful of the sea! Great service, great place and accessible to the train station, too!"

"Staying here was one of our highlights. The onsen was amazing. Clean and very enjoyable. Our room was also very clean and comfortable. The futons were very soft, and the air circulation was good.
The only thing is, i wish we booked more nights here."

"We Americans stayed here for 2 nights. Highly recommended. Great cultural experience for those looking for an authentic ryokan in an older style building with communal bathing facilities. Japanese breakfast was really fun but I had little idea what I was eating. Go with an open mind! I was glad there were a couple of very helpful staff who spoke some English. Otherwise, it looked like all local Japanese guests there!"

"Wonderful location with outstanding views, within walking distance of the train station. I wish I knew more Japanese prior to booking, as the staff seemed uncomfortable with us not knowing more of the language. (I tried!) The room was incredibly spacious and beds were obscenely comfortable. Overall, would book this property again--once I know more Japanese. My thanks to the staff who truly tried to bridge our language gap. If you're fluent in Japanese, you'll have a terrific stay!"
"The hotel was amazing! We had a private onsen room, which was very relaxing before having beautiful 5 course dinners in the hotel restaurant. The staff were so kind and friendly to us. We don’t speak Japanese but we were made to feel very welcome.

"It’s a lovely luxury vacation resort. Beautiful, well equipped. Shower is very powerful (not all hotels have that). Outdoor Onsen bath per room with sea view is the best.
All staffs are very nice and helpful.
The spa is superb too. We did facial and body massage. Totally relaxed.
It’s a great resort. Dinner is nice.
One recommendation: breakfast is limited to Japanese style only. It would be great if the hotel can offer Japanese style and western style.
We have been to karaku Hakone. The KARAKU Hakone offers both western and Japanese style breakfast. "
"Check in process was not foreign friendly. The room was very old style with no private bath/ shower. Furniture with slight damage and worn carpet. 1960-1970-ish hotel. Hotel app needs work, not easy to use. Restaurant staff were very attentive. Indoor and outdoor hot spring bath were nice."
