Navigating streets in HCMC with numerous fast moving motor cyclists was intimidating at first. The cyclists (akin to a river) however seem adept to flow by pedestrians (rocks on a river) with no mishaps. HCMC is looking modern and prosperous.

I think the central district ( aka District 1) is the best area for tourists. It is safe and very convenient for tourists to look for currency exchange office as well as many good restaurants around. Ben Thanh market is only a few steps away.

The city was beyond my expectations. Clean and tidy. However, crossing the roads is tricky. Traffic does not stop at zebra crossings. Also be careful with valuables when out. Only carry what you need and don't flash cash and phones.

HCMC is a vibrant, energetic city. It's alive 24/7. It has the energy of NYC but much cheaper and more friendly people. Walkable but too hot. Grab's are so cheap and easy to get around. Watch out for the scooters.

Beware of City's Traffic if you plan to drive. Airport to District 1 transport - Taxi costs ~15 USD vs Air conditioned public transport van #109 or #152 costs 2 USD. Choice is yours 😊
