Cardiff Sandringham Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Loved our stay at the Sandringham Hotel in Cardiff! Everyone we interacted with at the property was so helpful and kind, and really made us feel at home there. You can't beat the location since it's right there on St. Mary's, but it did get a little noisy on Saturday night. If you want a quieter evening, ask for a room at the back of the hotel (ours overlooked St. Mary's). This is a wonderfully functional hotel; it had everything we needed; we were hardly in our room except to sleep. It is not a luxury hotel, but it is clean and safe, and the price was perfect and was exactly what we were looking for. No lift, so if stairs aren't your thing, be forewarned. There was a sign on the stairs reminding us we burned 8 calories every time we walked up the two floors! :)"

"We stayed here because the prices were better than just about anywhere else in central Cardiff for the weekend, so we were willing to forgive a lot, but unfortunately we were still pretty let down. The staff on site were very nice and trying their best, but the facilities (reception, hallways, elevators) are all very rundown and dingy. The room was clean enough to stay in but a lot of wear and tear was very evident on the furniture, with an old battered TV and uncomfortable beds. Also there's no central air and you can't open windows, so it gets stuffy and hot fast. Not the worst hotel I've ever stayed in but I definitely wish I'd paid a bit extra for somewhere nicer."

"Bit disappointing to be honest. Booked via Expedia specifically for a sauna/pool and then found out despite being listed as a hotel with pool in the filters it's a prebooking required and hefty extra fee..! The lady was lovely and apologetic so no issue there but I wouldn't have paid for this hotel marketed as having a pool, sauna and lovely rooms (the photo on the website of my room does not reflect the room I'm in). Not only that but my room is sandwiched between the lift and further rooms, a corner room. With no natural light overlooking the loud bar that kept me up for HOURS and meant my corporate work event the next day didn't go anywhere near as smoothly as it should have. I booked my coworkers into the IHG down the road and their rooms were much nicer for a cheaper cost. Hopefully my review helps people to look into things a bit more before committing to booking the more luxurious option as it really left me feeling exhausted and underwhelmed. 10/10 team though. The hospitality and service was great and suggests they do look after those who work for them."

"This is a great hotel option. Rooms very clean with two double beds - hard to beat for the price. Ev charging is excellent. £10 for a minimum of 6 hours allowing a full charge on my car. When compared to the price of local public charging (£30-£40) this is a fantastic additional benefit. Only slight negative is that the hotel only allows guests to all check from 3pm even if rooms are ready. This meant we had to hang around for 45 minutes to check in at which point a crowd of guests were also queuing to check in. Please review the approach for check-in as there has to be a better way!!"

"Friendly, helpful staff. Nice size rooms & could control the temperature of the room. Handy to have a fridge. The breakfast choice was great & the cooked breakfast lovely & tasty. Will definitely stay again. Good location for Cardiff Castle for the concert we were attending there & also just a few minutes walk from the shops."
