I saw reviews about the road noises, it really isn’t a bother. Communication is great with the owner. Photos are real. I enjoyed the game room. The stay here is really nice. The food scene isn’t a high point, I had Mexican food at Margarita house bar and grill, which was basic.

I just cut and pasted the comment from 2 years ago, which unfortunately I missed before making my reservation: this property SHOULD BE DELISTED! The owner is mentally unstable! -this is the comment: I DO NOT recommend this property. This listing is NOT a resort. While well-appointed, it is a home. The owners live on the ENTIRE main floor. Had we realized, we never would’ve booked these accommodations. It is located right next to highway 64. The drone of traffic is constant. Hospitality was poor. Upon expressing dissatisfaction to the homeowner, he took what we could best describe as an authoritarian stance. It was intimidating. We worried. We had already paid for our stay, photocopies of our credit cards and identification had been made upon arrival, and our suite had uninhibited access from the game room. Even our door in the stairwell didn’t have a lock to secure our suite when we weren’t there. Aside from the pool, use of the amenities was awkward. Access to ice, refrigeration, or a microwave is inconvenient. While we thought to make the best of it, dissatisfied, we left a day early. We did feel valued as guests. We ended up booking another hotel for two nights after leaving “The Lakeside Resort.”

From the start, Greg was a challenging guest, he booked 2 and arrived with 3 guests. After informing him he would need to pay the daily fee for the 3rd guest, he blamed it on the booking site and indicated he never reads the listing/booking details when making reservations, he quoted, “no one ever reads these, it’s just not necessary”. While giving tour of property amenities, he was disruptive and made it difficult for all. His wife said he is always like this and, quoted, “after 30+ years of marriage, I just gave up a long time ago”. His son (3rd guest) apologized for his father’s behavior after the tour. Greg indicated he would stop by the ATM later when going for dinner as he wanted to pay cash vs using credit card. The next day around noon, other guests indicated that Greg and his wife constantly argued and complained about everything last evening after getting tired of all the bickering, they turned in early to avoid Greg and family. After hearing this and Greg making no attempt to pay, I asked him to pay remaining balance and informed him other guests were being negatively impacted by his conduct. He lashed out and indicated he was not paying and would be leaving shortly as he was very unsatisfied with the accommodations. Our other guests came to me immediately after Greg left, very happy he left, and reassured me our resort and staff were outstanding, surpassing their expectations, and that I should not change anything as they felt Greg was just difficult and found fault in everything.

Read the reviews before booking as there are things that I learned from the reviews that are not described in the Ad. The PROS are that Mark, the host, was easy to talk to and makes you feel comfortable. His house is beautiful and we had a blast in his gameroom, swimming pool and kayaking the lake, adjacent to his property. We sadly did not get to try out his Ax throwing range due to the weather. The Cons were that this is a private home, parallel to the interstate, in which you are renting a bedroom that may or may not have a shared bathroom. The shared, guest kitchen is a small, pool-side kitchen (without AC) and is on the first floor of the house but we did have access to a shared, mini-fridge and microwave in the bar area which is what we chose to use. The AC is controled by the owner and was kept around 75 which, personaly, was not comfortable to sleep in but we had no complaints about the level of cleanliness or comfort of the actual King bed/bedroom. We were very thankful to have been give the option of switching from the "Suite" as the suite is a 4th floor loft area which has the back room open to the game room. Lastly, we were the only guests during our short stay so we did not have to share the rental or it's amazing amenities. We truly appreciate Mark and thank him for our stay.

Bonie, we enjoyed hosting you and glad you enjoyed your stay! A little detail about the air conditioning, due to the size of the property, we have 4 central units that work in conjunction with each other, we adjust all 4 to keep the temp between 72-75 degrees for consistent comfortable for the guests throughout the property. Our typical setting guests seem to prefer is 74-75 degrees as the actual temp runs 2 degrees cooler than the thermostat reading due to the interaction of the 4 central units. The first evening you requested and we lowered the temperature to 72 degrees which is actually 70 degrees which we thought you were comfortable with. Unfortunately, our poolside cabana kitchen does not have AC but does have a large commercial wall fan that circulates the air and keeps it a nice temp. We have 4 booking options, guests can book the Suite, Paris room, King Lakeview, or Tropical king room. The Suite and Paris have private baths, the King Lakeview and Tropical king share a bath if both rooms are booked. We have a bath by the pool, one in the game room, and one in the foyer, for a total of 7. We are adjacent to the interstate and there is highway traffic noise that can be heard when outside, not much we can do about that. Thanks for taking time to prepare a review and we hope to see you visit again!

Not a bed and breakfast

Posted 6 Jul 2023 on Hotels
I was disappointed that we had a shared bath and there was really not a good place to park. This private residence is marketed as a bed and breakfast but it is really just a home. There is a keurig in the game room for morning coffee but no continental breakfast. We were visiting family so we were only there at night to sleep but we were expecting something with the name, “The lake resort”, and marketed as a bed and breakfast to be something different than someone’s vacation home where they are renting the spare bedrooms. No hand soap in the bathroom or hair dryer. To be fair, it was clean and quiet and if we were looking for a weekend on the lake at someone’s house with a pool, this would fit the bill and it is really the only option near our daughter’s house in Zebulon. We Will be sure to look a little closer at listings in the future so we are sure of what we are booking. The description refers to the apartments so we mis-understood that we would be sharing a bathroom.

Sheri, Thanks for taking time to leave a review! We are disappointed our property fell short on your expectations. We have a very unique and special property that doesn’t fall perfectly in any one category available and Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Airbnb, etc. All have listed us as a BnB that does not serve meals as after hosting over 1200 guests, the consistent feedback we have received is there is so much to do here, many activities, etc. that our guests prefer flexible time and meals as they want to enjoy the pool, game room, lake, kayak, axe throwing, etc and either prepare a meal, grill by pool, eat out, our have food delivered so we quit serving meals 2 ½ years ago and lowered our rates accordingly. We have parking for 6 vehicles right in front of the resort and a lot on side for 20 additional overflow/larger vehicles when needed. All our bathrooms have hair dryers in the top drawer, hand soap, extra hand soap and towels in the cabinet, etc. If we had known breakfast was key for you, we could have helped and put together muffins, boiled eggs, etc. We hope to see you visit again!

At first you may think this place is too good to be true- but it’s actually a real place with all the amenities it says it has. Mark is an excellent host!

Cozy Getaway near Raleigh

Posted 24 Mar 2023 on Hotels
The Lakeside Resort is a lovely little B&B with comfy furniture and homey decor. I was there on a business trip, but I'd definitely consider this for a family get-away. The pool and adjacent lake with kayaks and canoes provide ridiculously easy access to water activities, and for rainy days, the game room with pool table, ping pong table, skee-ball, and mini-basketball will keep the kids happily occupied. I had a lovely dinner one evening on the deck outside the game room, watching a heron glide across the lake and offering shrimp to the very friendly outdoor-only cat. The hot tub wasn't in operation while I was there, but that's another big plus in my book. It was incredibly quiet and relaxing at night. Much more cozy and comfortable than a hotel. The bed was quite firm, but I noted that there was a memory foam topper available in my room's closet for those who need a softer mattress. Mark the host was kind and considerate, staying up for my midnight arrival to get me settled in - excellent service! Note that there is no breakfast provided but plenty of coffee and tea, as well as shared fridge space. I made myself instant oatmeal with yogurt, no problem. Also, two of the rooms share a bathroom, so if that's important to you, read the room descriptions carefully before you book.

Our stay was excellent, check in and check out was easy. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We were there for business and hope to return next year for the same business trip. We would also love to come back for a vacation stay in the warmer months to enjoy the pool and the lake.
