Great place to stay!! Room was nice and large and breakfast in the room with coffee and tea are perfect for a pre town walking adventure. The tavern itself offers a wonderful dinner and gorgeous atmosphere. Staff was also funny and hospitable!

The location of the King Alfred was difficult to find on the SatNav, as the turnings in the City were very close together and with the volume of traffic, made the turns difficult to action. Once we got the hang of the turns after 3 times round the block, we found the Pub and were greeted by friendly staff.
The accommodation was good for the price, however, there was no shower or shampoo gel and the breakfast offering was poor. We had to ask for more milk as the amount left for us to have a cuppa AND breakfast was woefully short of what was needed. The staff were very friendly though which helped.

Lovely pub. Good service and lots of character. Only real negative is a tricky and noisy toilet cistern.

Expected more
Posted 8 Mar 2024 on HotelsI found the room really uncomfortable, shower room and toilet were dirty.
They also offer free breakfast but this only consists of granola, yoghurt & an orange.
The most disappointing part of my stay though was that the wifi connection in the room was absolutley awful. The host offered me to book a table down in the restaurant, but i would expect to have a similar wifi reception in my room as i would recieve in the bar.

I liked the homey pub atmosphere you could sit in and enjoy.

Not what it made out to be. Room/Bed size too small. Breakfast not up to what could be expected.

Xmas break
Posted 31 Dec 2023 on HotelsThe hotel was fairly close to the town centre we arrived before the pub was open so couldn't park the car there as you need a on street permit so had to go to the town centre car park. The room was cosy and we had a very nice evening meal we tried their pies, the pub was busy with a good atmosphere only a small criticism was the 10 percentage charge on the bill that put a glass on cheap wine over £9.00.

A hidden gem in Winchester. Cosy room with some nice touches like real coffee and a mini cafetière. Friendly staff, and the pub itself does great food. The TV was damaged and had a line across the middle, which was a bit annoying, but obviously we didn’t book the hotel for the TV!
Excellent value and a nice place to use as our base for a few days while visiting family.
