Check in was at 3pm and we did not get our room until 6:30pm. Once we got our room a severe storm came through and knocked power out at 7:30pm. People ran to the stairwell to get down to lobby. We all ended up stuck in the ground floor stairwell. The door to the lobby had a sheared off door handle that was not openable. So we were trapped with adults freaking out and kids crying. Once the storm ended we sat in the car for awhile to cool down because the hotel was so hot from no power. When going back in there were three guys with jeans, gold chains, and un button shirts smoking outside. They looked sketchy and not friendly at all. Come to find out one of them was the GM and another was the front desk. The front desk had hot bottle water and granola bar for the inconvenience. I emailed the GM (sketchy dude) about our issues and this was “his” response I guess. Comfort Inn GM in Newton, KS The door your complaining about is supposed to be an exit only, Which we have checked with fire department and is ok since its an exit only. I am upset to see people were propping it open. We were encouraging people to leave that night with a full refund to find a hotel with electric. Im sorry we can not help things like a tornado. I will refund you however,if you have a way to stop natural disasters like that please inform us how? Why didnt you say something to the GM who was down stairs handing out bottled water and snacks half the night?

The lobby and common areas were very sticky and smelly. Room was clean but getting there made me skeptical about staying

The room I was given had some load noise periodically outside the building. The elevator needs attention…I believe this was possibly the noise that echoing through the building. Room was well keep and staff was friendly and helpful.

With how affordable my familys 2 night stay was, we didn't expect to much from this hotel before we arrived. To our surprise the location was in a great area and the outside was very clean. When we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff and Inside our suite was even better. It smelled clean, looked great and we could smell that they use a little bit of bleach to clean their sheets. We didn't get a chance to use the pool but it seemed clean. They also provided breakfast and it was pretty tasty. Overall, great stay for this family of 6.
