Wanaka Glamping

Posted 6 Jan 2020 on Hotels
We had a great experience at Criffel. This is glamping -- not a hotel but a very nice luxury tent with a comfortable queen size bed and nearby outdoor shower (hot water available) plus a bathroom (flushing toilets). There's also a partially covered outdoor kitchen area. The views are fantastic and it's a 5-10 minute drive to town so the location is also very convenient. The host Lori was extremely helpful and went out of her way to help us. It was a great overall experience

Awesome area with amazing views when you wake up. My only complaint would be the bed, it was so uncomfortable with the springs poking you all night long, but I suppose it is glamping.

Hi Megan. Thank you for your review. Im so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. While it is indeed glamping, the beds should be of equal comfort to that of a cottage bed. I will definitely look into this. Thank you for your feedback.

Second home in Wanaka

Posted 23 May 2018
Pros: The cabin and the surrounding.
Cons: Cleanliness
Location: Wanaka town.
The entire cabin felt so homey with everything so well equipped. Host was friendly too. Felt like a second home, didn't wanna leave the place after we had settled right in. Cooked a meal for ourselves and warm the place up near the fireplace. Things will be better if all the furniture that look like it is for display is properly cleaned. We found dust everywhere in the cupboard or the other furniture and decided that it is better to leave it alone.

Charming home away from home

Posted 31 Jan 2018 on Hotels
Lovely private cottage. Has just about everything you need, and it comes with a full kitchen, cereal, fresh bread and milk. Check in is only 2 hrs a day from 3-5 which is kinda weird. I also called to say I was going to be running 5 mins late but no one stuck around to say hello but left the instructions in the mailbox. A bit strange. We stayed during a very hot period, and the cottage does not have any fans or ac. Finally, despite the fact that the check in wasn’t as smooth as we’d hope it’d be or that it was hot and didn’t have a fan of that the bed was very soft (bad for people with bad backs) we still have a great stay. It is a very lovely cottage. Extremely charming.

Great location

Posted 24 Jan 2018 on Wotif
Pros: Beds, towels and everything provided was great and everything you need. Breakfast provided was great with fresh bread, fruit and cereal.
Cons: Maybe remove the cobwebs as best as possible in an old house and keep the floors a bit cleaner. Dish clothe would also be useful.
Location: Good fresh coffee just down the road with heaps of activities. Plenty of options.
A very unique location. 10km from township and wonderfully peaceful. Great place for quiet time or to have friends join you . Weather was fantastic which meant sleeping with the door open and the stars were just wonderful to see. Breakfast food provided was fantastic and to enjoy this in the morning looking out at the mountains. Great way to start the day

Cozy, clean and comfortable farm stay

Posted 2 Apr 2017 on Hotels
Country farm cottage house at the back of the property grounds, about 10 min drive to the town. All simple, but very nicely decorated, with wooden floorboards, a fire place, rustic timber furniture, good quality bedding, undercover car park, a porch and 3 bedrooms. Nothing was runned down and the whole house seemed to have been painted recently. We could see the mountain range to the back of the house as well as some live stock roaming around. All very nice. There no TV or Wifi, which we found kind of great. They do provide some board games for entertainment. We arrived late and Mandy, the owner, welcomed us by the property and got us settled no dramas. They offer a tour to the farm (deer, cattle, sheep and some alpacas), which was informative and interesting, but quite expensive, we found. About NZD80 per adult. All in all, a very nice stay.

Bed configuration was not adequately advertised (cottage main part rented with each additional bedroom opened additional) was resolved with the helpful onsite staff. Bedrooms access is outside of the main kitchen & living, which maybe something to consider for those visiting in the winter. Fire place was available for use but not set up & no kindling was provided to start the fire. Still a pleasant autumnal experience.
