Posted 23 Oct 2018 on HotelsSituated in a corner of a street, it was quiet. Room was comfortable, and it has a nice view of the sea and the breakwater dome. It’s about a five minutes walk from the JR station.

Local Japanese hotel with good views of Soya Bay

Pros: Brilliant room, complete with mats, futons, sliding screen and issued kimono. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Lacked dining facilities, but as the hotel is surrounded by lots of small restuarants and is close to the station, this was not a problem.
Location: Wakkanai is well worth the effort of getting there. Good for bracing walks along the extensive sea front and the climb up to the tower. Spectacular!
An impulsive off-season visit to see Cape Soya brought us to Wakkanai. Booked the hotel on route using the excellent Expedia app, which has proved so useful on our JR whistle stop (literally!) tour of Japan. Opted for this local hotel (rather than the more well known brands) as it offered a Japanese style room. This turned out to be a good call :)
As well as the spectacular views, Wakkanai and Cape Soya have many excellent and moving monuments dedicated to world peace.

酒類の自動販売機が充実していない。近場にコンビニ等が不足してることもあるので尚更、自販機に頼るしかないがビール一種類しかないのは残念。
