You don't absolutely need a car for Howzit Maui, but it's really helpful. The hostel arranges daily tours and activities, but if you don't make it onto the sign up sheet, then you need to make your own arrangements. There are plenty of people who have car rentals, so making alternate plans isn't a big deal. There are six shared bathrooms (with showers) and a seventh just for women. There are two more washrooms on the main floor. They get pretty busy in the morning and at night. Pancakes and coffee are served every morning! It's a great way to start your day, but get some fruit when you can! lol

This is your typical hostel. The staff really went out of their way trying to help me get situated late at night with parking and my room set up. The area is really bad (zombies and car break ins) - so go early if you want a spot on the lot. Otherwise you will have to park on the street and walk a little ways.

Shout out to Will for making it right when our AC was damaged in our room. Genuine person with great customer service skills. Clean and quiet with plenty of places to walk to. Will return to use again.

The location, the price and the staff are all very good. Also, the bathrooms are very clean. The A/C in the room for 4 people is too loud, cannot sleep. I wish the room can be bigger, but the price is good.

Aloha Dawn! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! We're stoked you enjoyed our awesome downstairs common area. Sorry to hear that the parking options didn't quite hit the mark for you. We'll definitely take a look at how we can improve in that area. Your feedback means a lot to us as we strive to make every aspect of your stay top-notch. To start, we have a small parking lot located behind our hostel that operates on a first come first serve basis. If there are spots available at check-in feel free to purchase a spot for 10 a night. If there are no spots available please know that you are more than welcome to use that lot while unloading your luggage and getting situated at the hostel! For other options, there is ample free street parking located all around our hostel! In the future, please don't hesitate to stop by our front desk reception which is open 24/7 with any parking questions or concerns you may have. Our team is always ready and willing to point guests in the right direction for the easiest parking options in the area. Most nearby parking is 2-hour parking monitored only between 8am-6pm. That means, after 6pm you can leave your car parked all night without limitation.Hope to see you again soon for more good times here on Maui or Big Island!Mahalo!WillGeneral ManagerHowzit Hostels

AC was to be vented but not successful. Receptionist was outstanding and bathroom was well cleaned. Lack restaurants in the area was an issue as well as noise from outside traffic.

This property is one of very few on the island that is affordable. It is geared towards the young, extroverted, and those interested in traveling for the sake of meeting fellow travelers. Those who are introverted, dislike competing for a restroom, dislike beach sand everywhere, and crave peace and quiet are better served staying elsewhere.
