Safe, Comfortable, Clean

Posted 1 Feb 2021 on Hotels
It was clean & comfortable especially for an overnight stay. Safe & secure with regards to carpark & entry into the building. Hot water was not running until.7am but access to showers & toilets were clean & convenient. The kitchen had essentials that were easy accessed & plenty to go round. Location was superb close walking distance to the township, however, a little noisy from traffic. Rooms definitely had a fan & air condition that was easy to follow so was pleased. Overall a great place with good value for money to say the least.

We stayed here on a winter's night and the room had a heater and the bed had an electric blanket which kept us very cozy and warm. The place was also clean and the staff was very nice.

Disaster in waihi......

Posted 13 Mar 2020 on Hotels
This was listed as a hotel when in fact was less than a backpackers place. The double bed was squashed into a room suited for a single bed. We were in room 12 and were told it was the quiet room. How can a room next to a shared bathroom be quiet. Showers were going an until 1.30am.......each time a toilet was flushed the plumbing sounded like a jet plane going overhead. Shared kitchen was again more of a backpackers style, crappy cups was all that was available. Notice saying guests were responsible for cleanliness of kitchen, in these times that should not be guests responsibility but the management to ensure everything is sanitized properly. Stay well away from this place if you want a comfortable peaceful night. We should have slept in the car. On a good note both owners were really nice people and very civil.

Hi, our hotel is very historical, and is listed as a listed building at the local council. The name Golden Cross Hotel has been called for over a century and we would like to honour this name passed down through time. We are a budget hotel, and the room type you have chosen is one of our cheapest room types. As for your room, we have given you the quietest room of your chosen type, as all other double rooms are next to the street. If you would like quiet rooms, we have rooms with private bathrooms and they are in a quiet location within the hotel. For kitchen, we do our regular cleaning and sanitising everyday after the guest checked out. However, we ask the guests to wash their own dishes because dirty dishes left unwashed will create uncomfortable experience for other guests who will use the kitchen afterwards. However, we will make sure everything is clean and sanitised everyday, so our guest can always enjoy a clean kitchen when they check-in.

This is a very good budget accomodation. The shared bathrooms are clean, as are the rooms. There were plenty of charging spots in my room which was great for all of the on the road devices i had. Very close to a grocery store and there is a kitchen you can use to make your own meal if you are so inclined. The bed mattress was way too soft/saggy for me. Also, rooms at the front have to put up with truck traffic in the early AM hours.

Convenient stay in town

Posted 12 Apr 2019 on Hotels
Don't be put off by the exterior which is an older hotel by the looks of it. The room (I booked a private room) was small but nicely furnished. It was very quiet and I was right across from the showers which was convenient. There is a large kitchen and off-street parking. It's located just a block off of the main road in Waihi which is a small, pretty town with the beautiful just 10 km away. It was very good value for money.
