A pleasing visit to a royal residence

Posted 12 May 2016
Pros: Driving through the Chateau's gates every night after trips to Alsace and Burgundy. The Baron who is just like a kind, wise and funny old uncle.
Cons: Carpet in the bathroom could be replaced and improved. WIFI connectivity in the rooms would be great but not having any distractions is part of it!
Location: An hour or so drive from main wine areas such as Chateau Chalon, Burgundy, and Alsace. Historic cities of Dijon, Dole and Bensancon are also not far.
Imagine receiving news from your parents that you have a French Baron for a long lost grand uncle and that he would be delighted to host you in a historic Chateau located at Villersexel, France before it is sold. And when you do decide to go, you will find out that the Chateau Villersexel is located deep in the French countryside and the drive there will be long but scenic. Immediately upon your arrival, you will be given a warm welcome by the Baron Potet himself and at once you find yourself at home- something about the Baron's character that is a combination of intelligence, charm, sense of humor and genuine kindness will make you feel glad that you decided to visit him and his family. You will be given a room that you picked and it will give you a majestic view of the lands around the chateau. The furniture inside the chateau is old but clean and comfortable. Decorations include treasured family memorabilia and an exotic collection of artifacts that have been collected all over the world. As you explore its surroundings, you'll notice that the nearby river, old wooden bridge, grassy meadows and quiet woods will add to your sense of belonging. By the time you leave, you will feel that you will miss the Baron, his hospitality and the Chateau itself because it seemed that you were really a part of his family... Of course, not all of us have French royal blood but a visit to Chateau Villersexel will certainly give you with that impression! A visit to this place is a must!!

Chateau De Villersexel Chateaux Et Hotels Collecti

The host was very friendly. Overall a treat for the kids. The negative was the fridge, kettle and plastic coke cups in the bathroom. A venue of such history and rich decorations can surely provide guests with proper mugs/tea cups and saucers for tea/coffee. With all the fireplaces in the castle, a lit fireplace will actually also be a positive as the rooms are quite cold. Also something to note regarding the google map on hotels.com - it takes you to a desolate location next to a cemetery. This is quite haunting for strangers in a country not speaking the local language....

Stay a night or three in a real live french castle

Posted 23 Nov 2014 on Hotels
Lets get one thing straight. This is not a hotel, it is more a B&B inside a French Chateaux where the actual baron is your landlord. He will have your breakfast laid out for you in the adjoining room from his office, along the glorious, wing that has history dripping from every painting, room, piano, sculpture, chandelier, etc. The 700 year history, right up to the last century is jaw droppingly awesome and if you have time for the museum tour by the baronette, then take it!! The animals they have living in the grounds are amazing and you get to go up close to feed them as the deer lick your hands. Villersexel is a medieval town that hasnt changed in the last 300 years and is as beautiful as the chateaux and the Baron's family. I will be bringing the family back to stay next year so that they can feel part of French, living history and experience the animal park too.

Unique Experience

Posted 26 Sep 2014
Pros: Its ambience and history
Location: Borgogne, Dijon, Beaune, Cotes d Or, 1 hour away.
This is a unique and a once in a lifetime experience but you have to tradeoff typical hotel facilities in exchange of feeling like a guest of the owner, Baron Jean Pierre Potet, wife Corrine aand 2 kids, whose family has owned the property, 40,000 square feet of castle on 70 acres, for 400 years. If you are willing to carry your own bags to your room, no TV, handheld shower, no restaurant in the castle and only breakfast, although a gourmet one 5 minutes away, it is like being invited to a museum by the owner. Take a tour of the castle guided by the owner and you will admire 400 year old art, a piano played by Chopin, 400 hundred year old gobellinos, etc. Read a book in one of the various sitting rooms. Wallk ( or drive ) the grounds and you will have the oportunity to see a camel, a llama, a beautiful river, etc. If you really want to feel how it was to be a guest in a castle, this is it. I recommende a 2 to 3 night stay.

The castle is very pretty and well worth a visit. The baron is as unique as the castle. We loved it, but if you are seeking comfort and luxury, this is not the place.

Amazing

The chateau is an amazing building. The Baron let us look around at all the rooms we chose to see. The only concern was that we did not realize breakfast was extra! Overall beautiful and wonderful.
