Lovely and comfortable in Viana do Castelo
Posted 26 Feb 2024 on HotelsThis was a lovely spot in Viana do Castelo. I was welcomed very warmly. My room was cozy and warm. There were a lot of great details. Wine and sparkling water in the room. Breakfast in the kitchen. An absolutely delightful stay.

This is a great place to stay in Viana do Castelo! The hosts were great Sophia and Rami were very helpful and considerate. I wish I would have stayed longer! Directly in the historic center and walkable to many shops, restaurants and the waterfront! Can’t wait to return!

Posted 2 Jun 2019 on HotelsWe have stayed in numerous types of accommodation from luxury hotels to hostels in Spain and Portugal in preceding weeks. Dona Emelia was our favorite on many levels. A small scale guest house that has been a labour of love, with great architectural value and highly thoughtful amenities. They have guest comfort and experience at top of mind. Clean, central and very stylish and unique. Do yourself a favour and stay here.

first the pros: After spending nearly 1 1/2 hours completely lost and trying to find the guesthouse ( Google and Apple maps fail miserably) The proprietor Nuno graciously brought his bicycle down to meet us and guided us to the house. he then spent at least 30 to 45 minutes orienting us to the apartment explaining in technical detail all its many quirks and idiosyncrasies.
The apartment is large but is festooned with shabby, mismatched "mid century modern" furnishings and appliances (ie the passé retro 50's & 60's look). This may appeal to certain "hipsters", but most older guests I believe prefer modern tasteful furnishings
To our chagrin, the highly touted "free breakfast" was completely do it yourself with a loaf of stale cake, three raw eggs for two people, a couple of bananas, two small juices in a box… You get the picture. Of course you had to cook it yourself and proprietor kindly asked us to clean up the kitchen after we finished. So the question we asked each other was why bother? Most people on holiday prefer to leave drudgery of kitchen chores behind.
On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the entire unit was very quiet. We specifically asked for a quiet room prior to our arrival. A small space heater kept the living room area warm but it was quite cold in the bedroom. Apart from small retro "Edison" lights above the bed, there were no night lights in the apartment. It was a treacherous journey in the middle of the night to the bathroom!

I remind you that was sent to you our correct address after you booking confirmation and that all of our guests always come directly to us without any problem. To reaffirm that we are not a hotel, we are a guest house and yes we do not serve breakfast we offer all the necessary ingredients for your to it yourself which includes: yoghurts, butter, fresh cheese, juices, cow's milk, vegetable milk, raw eggs for make to your liking, fruit, cake, compote, peanut butter, honey, corn flacks, muesli, different types of tea, coffee, cocoa, yellow sugar and bread. If all this was not enough, please tell us what we should add to the breakfast? As we are a guesthouse you only need to put your dishes in the dishwasher. As you say in your comment you preferred another type of decoration for your accommodation, did you not even look at the pictures of our ad?
As for the heating, the room was at 25 degrees if you wished to have more than that, than you could request. Also in the suite you stay you had several light points from the bed to the bathroom you just need to turn it on the switches!
We are really disappointed with your comment because we do everything in our power to help and please our guests and when the comments are not fair we see ourselves in the obligation to clarify to others to not be misunderstood! You can also look to our other coments we have and you can see that normaly they are very positive and fair!

Nice and chic

Pros: Location, and the house is charming. Hots are amazing
Location: It is right at the center of old town in a plaza which makes it very convenient location.
Very stylish and the hosts are extremely nice and have wonderful suggestions to make the most out of your visit. The location could not be better, right at the center of town. My room had a very nice terrace.
