Not as expected

Posted 19 Jul 2018
This hotel was not what we had expected from the description and pictures; it is a little run down. We arrived during the check in times given, but no one was there. A lady came over from the neighbouring property to help us, however there was a language barrier. This isn't her fault, but this hotel is advertised as multilingual and English speaking. None of the staff seemed to speak any English. We found it strange not to have a key to our room so we kept most of our belongings in the car. The flooring was extremely uneven in our room and we thought we'd fall through the stairs when carrying our luggage (we're not heavy!)! The WiFi is advertised as in the rooms, but it didn't reach our room and we were a little worried that we couldn't spot a fire/smoke alarm. The breakfast was OK and probably the best part of our experience. We booked this hotel as a stopover before getting to our wedding venue and was not the affordable luxury accommodation we expected.

Thank you for your review. To bring you some elements on your critics, we want to precise that we are not a hotel but a guestroom. You were welcomed by my mother who also live with us and for whom speaking English is not in her skills. However, she could inform us on your arrival in order to come to you in the fastest way. Being a guestroom, it does not appear to us as a problem, but sorry if this disappointed you. Since we offer guestrooms, it is frequently that keys are not in the service. It has been now 20 years we are working this way, and we never had anything stolen or any type of bad experiences. However, following some other similar critics, we decided to set up locks on every room to include this service. For the stairs, I want to reassure you, they creak a bit, but it is original aged over 200 years, so it would not have let you fall through. Concerning the Wi-Fi, we apologise for the issue you encountered. Sadly for technical purpose and also because we are in the countryside of the region, the Wi-Fi is sometimes not enough strong to reach qualitatively all the rooms. However, it is accessible in the living room with a good speed. Every room possess a fire alarm, but they are hidden above the wood for aesthetics purposes you understand I am sure. Thus, we would like to apologise if you thought reserving in a luxury hotel, but we never pretended to be one. Indeed, we offer a service that everybody can access to by its price and the uniqueness of all the rooms (decorated by ourselves). Again, it is a guestroom and not a hotel. We are happy to hear that your breakfast was a good experience and that all the homemade products (or coming straights from local producers) pleased you. Best regards, Le Manoir de la Blonnerie

25th - 26th July 2017

If you do not book in advance for dinner, then you will have to drive 6miles to Dange Saint Romain. To book dinner in advance your arrival by phone then you will have to be fluent in French. Breakfast left a lot to be desired. I saw no smoke alarms which was a cause for concern in such an old building. Will not be returning.

A Charming Chambres D'Hotes

Posted 16 Apr 2017 on Hotels
This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Manoir de la Blonnerie and, as usual, it's. even an absolute pleasure. Everything about this place appeals, from the rustic charm of the rooms to the fabulous home cooked food... it's a gem of a chambers d'hotes and very reasonable too. Already looking forward to our next stay!

Good stopover venue for travelling south.

Another journey break. Easy to find but make sure you read the small print. Must phone in advance if arriving before 17.00 which is fair enough as it is a working farm. More importantly you must give 24 hr notice if you wish to eat in the evening. We failed to do so and had to drive into Chatellerault to eat. However some good restaurants available there. Breakfast, included in the price, was excellent and the room was very rustic and charmingly appointed. Great Queen size bed.
