Old style, large hotel in a beautiful, rural place

Posted 29 Jul 2015
Pros: The location.
Cons: Most things. There was no wifi, the place was tired and in need of a refresh, the room was very basic and the bathroom was pretty poor.
Location: Beautiful location in the hills and quiet and peaceful. I was invited into the local school as I walked past and everyone was friendly and charming.
The hotel was typical of several that I have stayed at during my trip; tired and in need of a refresh. I was there out of season so was pretty much the only guest so it lacked atmosphere and during the season it might have felt better. However, it just felt old with large, but poorly furnished rooms and a very basic bathroom (I couldn't get the hot water to work). I paid for half board which was a huge mistake as the choice was extremely limited and of average quality. Dinner actually cost me more than I paid for a meal anywhere else in India, yet it was worth perhaps half of what I paid. The swimming pool looked lovely, but the water was not clean and you wouldn't want to swim in it. Overall it was very basic and a bit of a disappointment. The best thing about it was the location. It was set in the hills and I enjoyed walking around the hotel and experiencing a totally different side of Indian life. For this reason alone I would recommend the hotel.
