Smelly room

Posted 20 Dec 2021 on Hotels
The room smelt of bad drains. In fact the whole corridor smelt awful as we were walking to the room. We were so tired from the journey we put up with it and mentioned it at reception when paying. It was met with a shrug of the shoulders, as if it wasn't their problem. Nothing was deducted from the bill, so we paid alot for a really poor experience and shan't be returning. There are considerably better options nearby, cheaper, cleaner and where they have a service mentality. Give this place a wide berth.

Dear Simon, I have read your remark and I am aware of the problem we had in the last few days. In fact, the city service told us that it had a problem with the sewage treatment system and the whole lower part of the city had the same problem. Unfortunately at our level, apart from diffusing an aerosol to reduce this bad smell, we did not have many other solutions. I am very sorry, know that our hotel is certified "Safety first" for hygiene and this smell has nothing to do with the cleanliness of our establishment. Also you made the reservation through an online travel agency who had already paid the room !! Guess this problem will be fixed today and hope to see you again in better condition

Good for stopover, great for dinner

Good place for a stopover. The hotel is nice but the distinguishing feature is the restaurant. Had an excellent meal!

Okay. Has potential but...

It's really unclear that the location is just off a busy road with lots of supermarkets and strip malls. As a matter of fact there is a big shopping center right across the street. This used to be a former monastery and a "Relais du Silence" which means it should be quiet but we could definitely hear street noise/traffic. It's also not near the center of Thiers at all. I could see that while booking but it's quite far away. - I think they could have been better at quite a few things: The room itself had a toilet that made noise if you didn't re-flush it. The refrigerator wasn't cold AT ALL. The carpet and bathroom definitely need upgrading, a bit old for the carpet and dirty in the grouting and on the wall near the shower. The restaurant really wasn't the best either, especially for being listed in Michelin and overpriced. The reception was just okay. All just okay. Has potential but not sure if they'll ever achieve anything better.

One thing from 20'000km away from us you are able to check our position and now if we are in the middle ot the country or in down town. We never said that we are in a quite place with birdy tweets all the day. We are located close a main exit of A89 motorway and due to the fact are located in a place appreciate by commercial center and all business place. Our garden is 15'000 M² and some guest appreciate to be close a motorway exit and some of then would appreciate an authentic and country place. Nothing is wrong on our description it's clear that we are located 1.8km away from exit 29 and few kim away from the center of the city. We received more thant 3500 peoples a year and more than 90% appreciate our restaurant who is Michelin's selected. We could understand that you have expectation that we are not able to fit your request and are not a palace. Best regards

This was more of a 3 Star grade and not 4 Star as advertised. The facilities were of a low standard and hallways had a bad damp smell. Air con did not work. Breakfast options was very limited.

Comfortable

Stayed one night at this wonderful hotel. After a long day travelling , we were meet by friendly welcoming staff . We sat outside this lovely old building with some spectacular France wine and nibbles. The restaurant was very very nice but most of all the bed was the most comfortable I have slept in weeks, as I have travelled for the past 3 weeks in France. Would recommend this hotel.

Safe didn’t work, heating stopped working during a very cold -5 spell. Limited breakfast selection. When a small dish of scramble eggs was finished kitchen refused to make more. Expensive for what it was.

Charmless

Very little charm here! Very functional check in & told that the restaurant was full that evening & we would need to eat elsewhere. The room was fine but that's all we saw of the hotel!!

Utterly mundane, several small problems

Posted 12 Jul 2017
Pros: We got a night's sleep. Bed was very nice.
Cons: See above. Add some character.
Location: Nothing. Located off a strip of highway, no contact with the town. We were on our way south, didn't plan pon seeing the town anyway.
Unfortunately for this hotel, the hotel we stayed in the night before was magnificent. This is a hotel that could be anywhere in the world. Nondescript. The mini-bar had the usual overpriced items which we didn't bother with. It was a mini-fridge that was NOT cold, so the milk we put in there for coffee the next morning was ruined. There was something wrong in the bathroom plumbing that I reported to the front desk. The shower has one of those great big shower heads, and to use it you move the hand-held part down to the bottom of the water pipe. So. The problem was that the hand-held shower part would not stay where it was put, it rather quickly moved down the pipe. At that point the humongous shower head was supposed to start emitting water, but that did not happen. I had to continually shove the hand-held part back up the pipe only to have it fall back down. Irritating. The hotel is cloistered with a wall that's locked at night, you get a code to get out if you're leaving early. Great if you're paranoid.
