Great comfort but sterile atmosphere

Posted 27 Mar 2017 on Hotels
No question, the rooms are big and comfortable. The atmosphere is very sterile, more like a communist grand hotel than a tropical resort. Friendly waiters but terrible food (Thai food has little in common with real Thai food, Western food little with real Western food; and don't expect any fresh ingredients or fresh fish there!), large selection at the breakfast buffet but all bad quality (even the "fresh" fruit tastes of refrigerator). Beautiful, clean beach (about 15 km long with just a handful of resorts). The Sunset Beach Resort is new and well maintained (they routinely claim that the jacuzzi in the pool and the water for the slide are all broken, but depending on the staff in charge, one can also succeed in persuading them to turn it on). Next door is a brand-new hotel (Sea Sun) where the same owner puts his Chinese guests. It's so noisy that you hear them even with your room's windows closed... Also, avoid the rooms B9 and B8 near the pool where the pumps are running 24 hours.

A perfect place to relax.

A lovely peaceful 4 days. A quiet location, with a long beach with fine sand. A perfect retreat. Love that the hotel has a shop by the pool so kids can buy snacks without expensive bills.

A very new and nice hotel on the beachfront.

Posted 8 Mar 2015
Pros: The friendly, helpful and efficient staff, the restaurant, the hotel rooms and layout, the swimming pool , the beaches and the sea.
Cons: The resort 'taxi' could be better.
Location: The location is secluded but the tour desk arranges interesting tours and even shopping tours to Khao Lak (if you must). There is no night life handy.
The Sunset Beach Resort, Takua Pa, is a very new and nice hotel right on the beachfront in a secluded part of the the Thai coastline, north of Khao Lak, on the island of Koh Kho Khao. It is a long taxi ride from Phuket airport and the taxi leaves you at the pier, where you catch a modified long-tail boat to cross the river to the island, where you are met by the resort taxi which takes you to the resort. This is a 2 hour trip so leave enough time to travel there after landing in Phuket. The river crossing boat is a bit of a surprise as it also takes up to 12 other passengers and 3 or motor bikes. The resort taxi is the usual utility with seats fitted on the back tray as is pretty common for tourist areas. All that being said, the resort is wonderfully laid out, big air conditioned rooms or chalets, a big and lovely pool, a really good restaurant that serves both Thai and western food. I never tried their western food, but their Thai food was excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient and their Tour Desk offered interesting and well priced tours. The resort is secluded to the point of isolation and so walks along the endless stretches of beaches is possible without encountering hordes of people. The water is calm and the only beach litter are shells that washed up with the tide. There is a great little beach restaurant 15 minutes walk to the north, where you can sit with your feet in the sand, have a meal or just a drink and watch the sun set

Sunset beach

Pros: Everything
Cons: See comments above
Location: Remote location, nothing nearby.
Brand new hotel which we were lucky enough to book their opening half price special. Large comfortable rooms in the main building with balcony overlooking the huge pool and the beach in the background. Individual cabins looked to be very comfortable.Resteraunt was very good and the staff very friendly and attentive. Miles of white sand beach with nobody on it. Only drawbacks were a limited number of lounge chairs on the beach and around the pool. If you didn't claim one by 7:00 AM you might not get one. The other issue is a lack of dining options because of the remote location. The hotel will arrange inexpensive transportation to the town or other hotel locations to vary your menu choices.

An einem laaaangen Strand gelegen

Posted 18 Feb 2024 on Hotels

Kaunis hotellialue

Posted 8 Feb 2020 on Hotels

Cudowny pobyt

Posted 4 Jan 2020 on Hotels
Piękny, zadbany ośrodek hotelowy w tajskim stylu należący do rodziny z KoKhoKhao. Doskonały stosunek jakości do ceny.
