I went to this hotel twice. The first time was last year and the second time this year
One of the best in the area
The staff are friendly and kind. I really enjoyed my accommodation here

The service and attention to details were top notch. The owner/manager was very helpful and with his help we were able to go to Kamikochi by public transportation even though it was closed. We really wanted to do this so his help was much appreciated. We did not have breakfast but the dinner was very good and served by these nice attentive ladies which we really enjoyed. The ryokan is more traditional which worked for us in the remote mountains. The view from the spacious lobby area was very pretty.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Sansui. Our host was excessively kind and the stay was great. We particularly enjoyed the private baths, especially the larger one which is tucked away.

The hotel is easy to get to from Matsumoto by bus on a very scenic ride. We were collected by the hotel manager from the bus stop. This is a very sleepy village, though we ate at two very good restaurants. The hotel has seen better days (not really a Ryokan). However two major highlghts: were their evening meal which was was brilliant, incredible course after course in a private dining room. Equally, the experience of sitting in their hot pool looking at the mountains was very memorable. Catching the bus down to Takayama was easy at the end of our stay.

Lovely Owner/Manager!
Posted 31 Jul 2023 on HotelsOff the beaten path, and probably best suited with a car (which we rented), but also accessible by bus/taxi. Owner/Manager was SUPER nice and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were unique and tasty, and reasonably priced. Very close to Kamikochi, and a few dining options nearby by car (and possibly an itzakaya across the street...if the owner is not napping 😆). 3 lovely private onsens on-site, too, plus 2 public for M and F. Nice alternative to western hotels with tatami mats and a lovely view of the mountains.
