Sewer smell in room, loose toilet....and I mean loose. AC unit quit in the middle of the night...woke up sweaty at midnight…..finished my night's sleep in the front seat of my car.......never again

Quiet, clean, convenient parking, and friendly service. But there is no shampoo and the refrigerator is broken

Topper is a no-frills motel in Taft CA. I chose this location to rest overnight for my supernloom photoshoot in the Carrizo Plain. Late check-in and check-out were seamless, the room was clean. My only complaints would be 1/ no drinking water in the room; 2/ the blanket was thin and, with this weather, too cold; 3/ the air conditioner was noisy, and 4/ room service vacuum cleaned the next room around 6-7 am which was too early in the morning. Overall, a decent place to rest for the money.

Only here for a late check in and early departure however it’s clean, quiet and has all that I needed. A little off the main drag, which is where I like to stay.
All in all, just what I was looking for and great value for money.

Very friendly staff, who kindly gave us an upgrade to a large room with all the facilities we needed. The second best motel of our two week trip!

A bit of occasional traffic noise. Other than that, the place was an excellent value and worth a trip off of I5 to get there.

What I liked about Topper motel is that it is family run—not one of those national franchises—and this is what distinguishes it as far as homey feeling, personally invested staff and the feeling of being in a one and only place
