Staff were all super helpful, accommodation was very comfortable and dinner and breakfast both excellent!

A wonderful, beautifully restored property. Everything about our room was comfortable, considered and clean, everyone was so friendly, and the food was exceptional. Breakfast was a particularly highlight!
We were totally happy with every part of our short stay at Schoone Oordt and would unreservedly recommend booking.

Charming Hotel
Posted 14 Jan 2024 on HotelsSadly only had one night here en route, wonderful, quirky, charming hotel. Wonderful warm welcome from the staff, really well looked after, the restaurant is fabulous, superb quality meal and the breakfast was amazing. They even washed our car, highly recommend

We enjoyed an exquisite stay at Schoone Oordt with the highlights being the exceptional dinner service, the cosy and well appointed room, the wonderful personal service and the splendid Swellendam architecture. We couldn’t recommend it more highly.

A wonderful boutique hotel with excellent staff, food, drink and rooms. Well located in the centre of Swellendam. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Schoone Oordt during July and rented 3 rooms for our travel party. We arrived in the late afternoon, only to find that there was load shedding underway, and the resort had made no provision of inverters or generators for our rooms. So our first experience of our rooms was dark, cold and gloomy. Trying to unpack and get set up in our rooms while stumbling around in the dark was no fun. Overall, we only had power about half the time we at the resort. There was no disclosure when we made the booking that the resort had no electricity backup, and we assumed that since load shedding has been ongoing for years, that such provision would have been made at a resort of this calibre. Additionally, one of the rooms had a broken wall heater that didn't function when the electricity came back on and so the occupants were freezing throughout the night. The only saving grace was that all the staff were super nice, and the breakfast was wonderful. Overall though, we had had high expectations, but it was a very disappointing experience at a resort that charges a premium rate. Buyer beware...

Hello DanieThis is such terrible news. Thank you for your feedback and we apologise profusely. We have placed our orders for batteries & invertors and they are due for installation next month. Up until this point, we have not had the resources to do so as we had tried our best to survive Covid. We have battery lights and fireplaces in the rooms and the fires should have been lit so that your rooms were warm when you arrived. Once again, our deepest apologies for your uncomfortable experience. I hope that you will give us a chance to make it up to you next time.

Schoone Oordt Country House
Posted 14 Jul 2023 on HotelsWe had an awesome time. The town and your lodge are stunning. I have driven past Swellendam maybe 30 times in the last 7 years since I moved to Knysna. Never once had I ever turned off the N2 and driven through Swellendam. We ended up spending a small fortune at one of your local art galleries. And the restaurant where we had dinner (Drostdy) was excellent!
