There are many great hotels in the Sucre area to enjoy- Sadly I would not recommend Villa Antigua. Despite good staff and a nice hotel- I was overcharged for my stay and when I reached out to Expedia to assist in this overcharge I was told the hotel was not willing to explain the amount. Very disappointed in this hotel and the unexplained overcharge. I'd recommend trying one of the many other local hotels.

Dear guest, Thank you for recognizing the nice hotel and good staff we have. Im sorry for your confusion about the charge. Our prices are rated in US dollars, to facilitate comparison by our international guests. On paying, most guests pay in the local currency bolivianos, like you did, and we apply the official exchange rate, already fixed for 12 years. When Expedia called us, it was clear that you calculated your supposed overcharge with another, incorrect rate. We checked the calculations before responding to Expedia that you had used a wrong and inexistente exchange rate.Disappointing that you publish this review, without checking the facts.

Lovely historic hotel in the heart of Sucre. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and well-maintained with outdoor and indoor seating areas to relax and enjoy the views.

Convenient are to go by, near to the plaza and nice place to stay. What I loved more was an excellent coffee shop next to the hotel. I strongly recommend

Great small hotel in a antique Sucre house. Close to main Plaza (centro). Good place close to everything

A boutique hotel close to all

Posted 30 Jul 2018 on Hotels
This is a nice remoleded hotel. We reserved the suite because it said has a view but the reality is different is a nice and big room BUT TOO DARK AND HAS NO VIEW ONLY TO A WALL and the patio balcony with view was outside if the room. We downgraded in irder to have a toom with view. The furniture of the whole hotel is great and the breakfast really good. The heat is a problem since you have to request several times a day yo be turn on and they do it and after few hours is turned off until you ask again. The lication is great.

Dear guest, Thank you for your review. The master suite has its balcony, which lies behind the upper part of the facade. From the balcony you have a view over part of the city and the 2 characteristic mountains of Sucre. But we were happy to reaccommodate you according to your preference. Regarding the heat, in wintertime Sucre has normal day temperatures of around 20 degrees and night temperatures of less than 10. That´s why we only put on the heat in the night and during daytime only on request. Sorry, that it took a few hours, normally the central heating is effective within 15 minutes after the request. Great, that you enjoyed and extended your stay overall.

Great old building, nicely renovated

Posted 25 Jul 2015
Pros: Location, friendly and helpful staff, large room and views.
Cons: The heating in the room was inadequate for the cold weather. Breakfast could have more variety.
Location: The nearby central plaza is always lively, as is the central market. There's good coffee and food around the plaza.
The room was a generous size with a good bed and nice furniture. TV was old, but that didn't bother me. Great views from the room and the terrace. Breakfast was basic but served in nice surroundings by friendly staff. Very good location, just a short two block walk to the central square. Overall, a very good experience.

Not quite as nice as 3 years ago

Posted 25 Apr 2015
Pros: Location & general layout of hotel
Cons: As stated above a general pick-me-up. And of course an elevator!
Location: Right across the street from the Santa Clara Convent Museum. A couple of blocks from central plaza
We were surprised upon arrival at Villa Antigua that I had mistakenly reserved a room for 1 when I knew full well that my wife would be traveling with me. Recognizing my mistake I said I would gladly pay the difference. Upon checkout I was informed that the difference would be substantially more than I had estimated or later, upon examination, more than the difference between the Expedia posted rate for a double & what I had paid. No big deal but sort of leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Otherwise we like the hotel where we have stayed before. Indeed we got the same top deck room we had stayed in some 3 years ago. The hotel still has a nice feel to it, but was a bit barn like this time as it was scarcely half full. Plus the wear & tear of 3 years are evident & I would say that the owner needs to do a thorough pick-me-up. Little things: toilet seat loose, door btwn bathroom & bedroom off center and very difficult to close, the catch devise on the shades broken so shades couldn’t be kept open, shower curtain rod not properly fixed in place, the outdoor furniture need revamping. Little things. Plus like all but the best hotels a desperate need for more electric outlets – in today’s world we all have electronic devices that need charging. In Villa Antigua’s case all that would really be needed is to replace all single outlets (they all are) with double ones. Breakfast fine albeit not particularly notable

Feels like a new hotel

Posted 10 Nov 2014 on Hotels
The Villa Antigua is a large building in a modern interpretation of colonial architecture, with really nice rooms. A terrace at the top provides great views of the city, and a garden in the back and inner courtyard provide lots of open space to spend time in when not in your room or out exploring Sucre. It is uncertain how new the hotel is, but everything looks new and sparkling clean, but at the same time still has many "new hotel" kinks to work out, like the dependability of cleaning staff, quality of breakfast, and which taxi company to rely on (not the one they currently use). Still a good choice in a good location for a worthwhile price.
