It was our first time at the Grand Hotel. We stayed at the hotel on our way to catch the ferry from
Caen to the UK. The location is very peaceful next to the Solesmes Abbey. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was of a high quality. Our superior room had a balcony and air con and was spacious. Our little border terrier, Lola, was made very welcome and we found a lovely walk next to the river behind the Abbey.
We will definitely come back.

Hotel was clean and comfortable and the food in the restaurant was exceptional. However the hotel was just too hot. The air conditioning in the restaurant was barly functioning and there was no A.C. in the room - other than an electric fan. Using the booking 'filter' I requested a hotel with A.C in the room.

Dear Sir, We thank you for your comment but we would just like to explain you our possition.
You booked via a website a confort room and there is no airconditionning in those rooms.
Our restaurant has not airconditionning too, but to please our guests the only solution we had, was to put fans. We are sorry out the hot weather you had during your stay, but it is exeptionnal in our region. Best regards. Marie

Excellent hotel, First Excellent hotel

Pros: I just enjoy staying at this hotel and have done since 1977.
Cons: Stair carpet needs renewing
Location: A nice village to walk around plus the abbey.
Le Mans is in easy reach.
Good museum at Le Mans Race track.
An excellent hotel first rate staff and service. This is a hotel I have always enjoyed staying at.
Excellent evening meal with attentive staff.
Good breakfastwhich makes for good start to the day.

Beautiful hotel, picturesque location

We arrived quite late and they managed to squeeze us in to the restaurant for an excellent meal (for example there were 19 cheeses to choose from on the cheeseboard). Only issue was that it was a hot night and there is no air con, which would have been nice but not essential as we were able to leave the balcony window open. A lot of attention to detail otherwise.
