Unique experience in low key hotel

Posted 3 Mar 2019 on Hotels
Unique experience in converted shipping containers. The place is clean but could use some additional maintenance. The room itself did not have hot water, showers are solar heated, i.e. lukewarm at best. The grounds are a work in progress, the caretakers are busy working but looks like it'll be a while before everything is updated. Random trash lying around on the ground around the exterior common areas was a disappointment. The food is just as expensive as restaurants around Aruba, but of lower quality. Tried different breakfast and dinner meals, would not recommend their food. The swimming pool is maintained well. Bottom line - good accommodations for the money spent ( substantially cheaper than the hotels in the resort areas), just don't expect too much. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

A great place to get away from the high-rise, low-rise tourist congestion further down the island in Savaneta for an awesome "living it" island experience. Driftwood Gardens is an extension of units for the economically minded. Beautifully done efficiency units perfect for a couple or singles and complete access to the grounds and benefits of Club Arias, complete with a full bath, a kitchenette, a nice little bedroom with a comfy bed and sheets, and a long bar top perfect for eating and planning out your day. The adjoining grounds of Club Arias are beautiful and immaculate, but really makes this place special is how attentive Arias, Alfonso, Gabriel and Gloria are to doing their jobs of making you feel like you're always welcome in Aruba and part of an island family. I found this place by very happy accident 5 years ago and have stayed there in both the Club Arias suites and the Driftwood units every year since, and wouldn't think of being anywhere else. This place is special, unique and what I consider my second home in Aruba.

Bargain, great for a certain type of traveler

This is a storage unit that has been converted into a motel room just on the side of Club Arias which is listed as a bed and breakfast but I would call it a motel with very nice suites. The room has a comfortable bed, a TV that works, a fridge, a toaster oven and a microwave, a good size bathroom with a full shower and sink. No hot water, the water is warm. The location is quiet and peaceful and very close to Savaneta Beach and Mangel Halto Beach. You have the pool and the hot shower and the garden to enjoy at Club Arias. The room is very private which I love! The staff is very friendly. The owner seems nice enough, we had very little interaction with him. We ate dinner in the adjacent Restaurant one night and the owner was dining there. He was loud but obviously loves Aruba. My only disappointment was the second wading pool being filled in with sand. The big pool is great but the other pool is a big sand box. A lot of the pictures were of the gorgeous wading pool and adjacent hot tub which are not longer there. However, we did not spend one second in the pool so it was not a big loss. There are also no bike rentals anymore. An amenity update is in order for the booking listing. In summary....Loved it, if the listing was more accurate I would have never missed what was missing. I love Savaneta and I will return here as soon as I can and stay at Driftwood Gardens. Perfect for me.

Very unique & relaxing experience

Pros: Authentic atmosphere, friendly cats, great very knowledgeable staff, location, privacy, great restaurants in the area.
Cons: Many people would probably want hot water in the shower. There is coffee maker, so it would be nice to find a few ounces of good coffee upon arrival.
Location: You gota try Flying Fish Bone Restaurant! The main beach in Savaneta is probably one of the best beaches we've ever been to, and THERE ARE NO PEOPLE!!
OK folks, if you're looking for your typical "run of the mill" Ritz-Carlton, this is not it! The part of the hotel we stayed in is built from shipping containers stacked on top of each other with stairs to the upper levels made from 4' x 4' pallets. Thus, our suite was 8' x 40' with bedroom area (no door) at one end of the container, bathroom on the opposite end, and kitchen/sitting area with front door & window in the middle. There is no hot water in the room, which did not bother us much, since it is always hot in Aruba. Besides, there are 2 warm showers on the property by the pools. We were able to park our car (you do need a car to get around this part of the island) right next to our front door, which was very convenient. Also, there is no room service, as nobody but you have access to the room during your stay. This is accomplished by means of a programmable door lock, which you program with your own access code when you arrive (kinda like a safe in your typical hotel, except that your entire room is your "safe"). Wall AC unit is located in the bedroom right above the bed: it took some adjusting to get the room comfortable for a good night's sleep, but no big deal... Make sure that you like pets if you decide to stay here, as there are 3 friendly young cats on the premises, who like to socialize. And, bring plenty of mosquito repellent, as we were "eaten alive" in the common area on the evening of our arrival. Overall, we loved it & would definitely come back!!!

Aruba's Hidden Gem

Pros: It's a people place
Cons: Better directions from the airport is needed
Location: Great Pizza right next door. G&G Pizza
If you want a great place to stay off the beaten tourist path, with resident owners then this is the place to stay. Bus stop. is right outside the entrance then for $2.00 You can go to Baby Beach or to the center of town. Taxis from the airport is $25.00 This will be my reoccurring destination

Totally misrepresented. No WiFi in room. Dark walkways. I guess if you pay more you get the good stuff
