A very special aerie

Posted 21 Jun 2014 on Hotels
This is a very special place. It is clearly not for everyone. For those who appreciate unique, this is one unique place. Built on the very top of a 900 meter high mountain, this medieval town of only 350 inhabitants overlooks tens of miles of gorgeous picturesque farmland and countryside in every direction. Host Mary is a wonderful cook and dinners of local fare are delicious and served with an artistic flair in an ambience that belies the rustic surroundings. Breakfasts are more than ample for the expected continental style. Unfortunately there is only one room with a view but what special morning and evening vistas that room offers! I'd love to visit again if the opportunity arises.

A special place!.. but you'll need a CAR

Posted 7 Nov 2013
Pros: the location, the dining room, the owners, the food
Cons: the room furnishings
Location: The hotel is located in Sant'Angelo Limosano, 20 km north of Campobasso.. Campobasso has a lovely Fort to visit, and lots of services.
We stayed for two days at the Hotel Perbacco. It is located in a historical building, reached by 3 switchbacks, high in the mountains, about 30 minutes north of Campobasso. We chose it because of the excellent Trip Advisor references. It wasn't clear that we needed a car, from the information we got, so when we confirmed our arrival with the owner, Julio, and asked the best way to reach the hotel from the train, we discovered our problem. He kindly picked us up at the train and helped us arrange car rental. There is an unbelievably romantic restaurant onsite and Julio's wife, Maria, cooks for guests. She is an excellent cook and the superbly decorated dining room, all arches and stone, was special. Prices were reasonable and wine choices quite good too. They also offer complimentary breakfast, which was quite acceptable. Though we had advised through Expedia that my husband had dietary restrictions, the message did not reach Julio. He found out when I called to confirm and they did an admirable job in trying to adapt to his restrictions. Our only disappointment was the room itself. Though it had a lovely view, and was furnished with quality pieces, the room had no balcony or easy place to sit to enjoy the view. We suggested a table and chair near the window. Overall, a good experience in a wonderful location. Julio was a great promoter for the Molise region, which is not highly touristy. He called it the 'green' region of Italy and he is SO right. Worth a visit!!

Bacchus would have been proud

Pros: Location, multilingual staff, guides for area in all sorts of formats, decor and spa.....and the price.
Cons: The slight maze in climbing to the top of St Angelo Limosan
Location: Fresh, great views and plenty to share
This place is perfect, it even makes its own wine which is very drinkable. The spa is a brilliant addition. Hard to locate until you have mastered the route but worth every bit of climb for a view of snow capped mountains and on a clear day the sea. Visit now and take in the unique atmosphere of Molise. Gulian and Maria could not be more welcoming. I love the place so much I bought a house near by.
