Gorgeous location and beautiful property. Great breakfast and wonderful staff. The road leading to the location is a bit rough, but doable. Walking outside the hotel isn't super easy.

this is a small property with only seven bedrooms but well kept in a beautiful location on the north shore, Excellent kayaking and snorkeling and a small pool but no beach. Only downside is that taxis are required to reach other restaurants and shopping.

This was truly an amazing place for a relaxing getaway. It is remote enough to be peaceful yet a short drive to the action of the tourist areas.

Great Hotel in a cozy mangrove!

Posted 14 Apr 2018 on Orbitz
Pros: Everything!! Especially Kenry and Rosario!!
Cons: Nothing at all!
Location: There is to much to tell about it so few characters!! Just go there and have fun!!
So we heard about Roatan from a buddy of mine whom was Honduran. He told us about this little island where he was going on vacation. I checked it out and was blown away with the amount of stuff that was available to do on the Roatan! It is the diving capital of the Caribbean! We weren't divers though, we are explorers. There was just as much exploring to do on this big little island as we wanted!! Now just to figure out where to stay!! Well we searched and searched and all we could find were dive hotels or resorts. we didn't want either, we did end up going on a kayak snorkeling and boat snorkeling tour, but we did much more exploring the island and going on mini adventures everywhere!! We found Upachaya and it was just the most wonderful little hideaway on the whole island!! We were absolutely enthralled with our stay at Upachaya!! Barb was the most wonderful flexible hostess' that we have met!! We truly enjoyed our stay at Upachaya and had a blast on the whole island!! From the East Side all the way to West Bay we had a great time!!

Juan I'm sorry you didn't like the lights that surrounded the pool, or the pool light itself. We have attempted to keep the lights low so as to not disturb other guests at night. Most guests use the pool prior to 10:00 P.M.

Perfect and Peaceful

Posted 8 Mar 2017 on Hotels
It was a perfect stay for us! The owner is so kind and she was there to greet us as soon as we arrived. She gave us a tour around her beautiful property and taught us tons of facts about Roatan wildlife. Dinner was delicious and magical in a thatched roof hut and breakfast by the pool was also delicious and relaxing. The room was a perfect size for our family of four and it was clean and peaceful and had everything we needed.

Calm quiet far away from crowds

Posted 1 Mar 2017
I had a lovely 10 day stay here. Very quiet and far away from the resort scene of west bay and the bar scene of west end, but a short drive if i was feeling that. Take one of Barb's yoga seminars if theres one happening, and definely go kayaking/snorkeling. I used blue island divers, they are amazibg, 5 minutes away, and they can pick you up on the dock if you dont have a car. Delish food/drinks when i didnt want to go out for food, I lovved the granola bars, it was a nice treat between dives. So quiet and calm, and the place works actively to protect the mangroves at the bottom of the property and by extension, the beautiful marine preserve, which has such great marine life.

Relaxing

Posted 15 Jan 2017
Pros: A perfect place to relax.
Cons: Not a thing.
Location: The hotel is 3 miles from town and they will provide transportation. The hotel has boat tours (can snorkel) and paddle boats available for use.
.I arrived at Upachaya in a state of mental and physical exhaustion. This is a fabulous place to unwind and de-stress. I curled up on the porch for two weeks and spent most afternoons simply reading and/or writing. I enjoyed falling asleep listening to the tree frogs and the men fishing in the bay. Barb, the owner, is friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. If you want a tour or transportation, she will make arrangements. If you want to stop at the grocery store for cheese, crackers and wine, you will be able to do so. The very small kitchen serves amazing meals and you must try their Monkey La La! I will definitely return. Sooner rather than later!
