The road towards the hotel wasnt good enough. wifi didnt work outside either as advertised, so had to use my own data. Overall, could not complain at the beds and general room facilities. Dirty teaspoons for tea and coffee. Staff were professional, but lacked friendliness after a long journey for me

Lovely hotel with friendly staff, Alistair on reception was always more than happy to have a chat or help with anything I needed during my stay. You get what you're paying for here.

So if the shining met the bates hotel this is what you would have.
I felt like the building well my room was a strong wind away from falling down. My wardrobe was tight to the wall at the bottom and almost 6 inches lean at the top. The room door was a parallelogram and cables hanged on the wall like the tv was an afterthought.
No fan or aircon when i opened the window anyone could get in from my floor and the blind kept banging like a gong each time the wind blew. Oh and the curtain was ornamental and didnt cover the window.
The bed was huge but it was maybe a foot off the floor. Ok form me but for some i would say way to low. Also it has a 1 million tog duvet and no light sheet so it was just sleep with nothing on top or under and sweat.
It looked like it was 5 star in the 50's so they thought this what ait broke doesnt need fixed. But sadly it does.
There was a hugely squeaky floorboard just at the right place betweek bathroom, room door and bed meaning i couldnt miss it, no major issue for me but im sure who was below would have hated me. Also once everyone got back to their rooms i could hear a mix of snorers and talking coming from all directions.
Place is crying out for a refurbished. Building and grounds look stunning.
Oh and its a complete maze. Stil couldnt find a toilet in the hotel outside my room. If it was cheap id understand. But theres cheaper and better. I staid as a last resort.

our room was quite poor. no mirror in room ( only in bathroom) which is inconvenient as cant do hair. the hair dryer was horrendous was like using a drill the vibration and the noise from it also smell of burning from it. our bath room was really dirty toothpaste all over sink, taps down side of the wall. also toilet roll was stuck to the wall. shelving in bathroom unsafe. d.i.y path panel hanging off. as for the restaurant it was like being back at school cafeteria we walked in and walked straight back out never seen anythinf like it at a hotel. we checked in on fri afternoon and left later that night. we weent due to leave till sunday.
