We did not mention anything about my birthday but I think they saw it in my reservation and surprised us with a bottle of sparkling wine and a birthday card. Truly was not expecting anything like that to happen but it was greatly appreciated and very kind of them.
The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were modern and everything worked. Internet was fast for social media and looking up places on Google. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The location is in the heart of old town, a stones throw away from the Astronomical Clock, so expect crowds on your way to the hotel. By no means a negative, but something to be aware of if you don’t like big crowds.
Overall the Dominican was clean, presentable, convenient, safe, and cozy.

The welcome was very pleasant and the service efficient. However the property fell short of ‘exceptional’ by a wide margin considering the room rate we paid. Restricted head height in the bedroom we stayed in, where the photographs on Expedia show more spacious accommodation. We were told, unprompted on arrival, that there was no point in complaining because the hotel was fully booked. We were disappointed that the restaurant was permanently closed. The common lounge areas were nice, but the breakfast area needed updating. The overall location of the hotel was good.
