WORSE THAN TERRIBLE
Posted 6 Nov 2023 on HotelsABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The place DOES NOT EXIST. Drove there to find it’s out of commission. Emailed the guy to say “hey I’m here” he informed me he cancelled all stays. FUNNY cause he or hotel.com thought it was a good idea to tell me. I asked the guy for a refund and he called me a “pompous American.” We had to find a new place to stay and hotels.com didn’t seem to care at all. In my opinion my stay that I hate to book last minute at higher rates should have been paid for by THEIR MISTAKE. But nope, nothing. And they wouldn’t even approve giving me a refund for the California Lodge. Instead their respond to me was basically “well we need to verify with the owner but we can’t get in Touch with him so we’re keeping your money.” I even sent them screenshots of the email where the guy confirmed he cancelled stays. ABSOLUTELY absurd and terrible customer service. I will NEVER book on hotels.com again and I strongly recommend no one else does either!!!!!!

We were unable to stay here as it was closed when we arrived and the mail was lying in the hall. Fortunately we were able to stay at the inn on the coast nearby

We really appreciated the staff who greeted us and served our breakfast. However, the accommodations did not match what was posted on the Expedia site - no 24 front desk, no lounge ( except the breakfast dining room), not sure where the on-site restaurant was. We had to ask for a hair dryer. No laundry. A bit disappointed as those were the amenities we were looking for.
Beds were comfortable!

Check out process was a farce had to wait because the lady who checked us out was cooking breakfasts.
Long walk into town.
Cleanliness was ok if you didn't mind a mouse bait box behind the door!

On site parking with clearly marked guest spaces an unexpected bonus. We really like the security box check-in which meant we could arrive at a time of our choosing which left us free to continue sight seeing without the worry of clock watching. Room was a good size but quite dark with only one small window for natural light. Roller blind on window had gaps down each side so made the room visible from the outside at night and also let in the early, early morning light. Room was cold overnight and light switches for the main light were located outside the room. Good overall for a budget stay but when compared to other places we stayed on this holiday, it felt a little overpriced.
