Relaxing haven in Ooty

Posted 25 Feb 2018 on Hotels
Food was excellent, had a few initial issues with cleanliness of room but this was rectified immediately with apologies. Cold in the evening but a nice open fire was provided in the room.

The good old days of Kings Cliff are over.

Posted 22 Dec 2017
Check In staff were cold and uninviting. Despite clear availability of rooms, they kept going back and forth with the head office staff regarding allocation. Finally, after 20 mins was palmed off a lower category room. Lost my cool, following which I was offered 2 decent rooms to choose from. Rooms have been repainted and renovated. They have lost their Victorian era charm and feel. It's a cold winter night but you can choose between a few pieces of firewood or an old barely effective heater. No words.:) The garden was fairly maintained although one couldn't sit there due to some kind of foul smell. On closer inspection, garbage was being dumped at one corner. Regarding breakfast, food was decent. The FnB manager was prompt and attentive. Check out time as per itinerary was 12pm(Check In 2 p.m) . Hotel staff insisted that it was 11 a.m. Was happier to leave early but did email littlearth with the booking reference and my views on their lack of integrity. The hotel staff seems to have a mix of clueless trainees and folks that couldn't care less. That said the local staff were prompt as always. Once prestigious, now run of the mill.

a trip into a previous world

Pros: Almost everything, food, friendliness of staff, nature, just the plumbing needs some renovations
Cons: Plumbing must get fixed, altho'modern bathrooms have been put in, I dont think anyone considered the venting, it smells regularly.....
Location: Surrounded by tea plantaions, with a heritage narrow guage railway to charm you, definitely the cleanest railway station in India!Plenty of hiking.
It really has atmosphere and charm, with fireplaces just everywhere. Our bedroom was delightful, someone came to light our fire whenever needed, and we had a pretty classed in porch for reading or just relaxing ,enjoying great view, many birds and monkeys.

For that Vintage Experience at Ooty

Posted 27 Dec 2015
What I liked : Excellent stay. Well maintained vintage hotel. Quality food & service. Courteous staff. A little far from the hustle and bustle of the town. What I did not like : 21.2 % city tax had to be paid extra at the hotel. Everything in Ooty has become highly commercialized. The taxi driver was not interested in showing me the places I requested. He was more keen on taking me to those regular tourist places & commercial centres where he could collect a commission. I was surprised to see the greed of state Govt, collecting an entry fee at every park, lake and other tourist places. More surprising is that you have to pay a fee for carrying a camera, but no charges if you use your mobile phone to click photos. What a shame !

Excellent Property for a Quiet and Comfortable Sta

Posted 7 Sep 2015
Pros: Ambience, Location, Staff
Location: Ooty town is just about 2 kms from the hotel. Roads are in excellent condition.
Kings Cliff is located at Havelock Road in Ooty and is well and truly away from the chaos of Ooty town. The property is beautiful and secluded and offers a good view of Ooty town and the surrounding hills and is a perfect getaway for all kinds of travelers. Once and old British Bungalow (almost 150 years old), it has been converted to a hotel and is well maintained. The staff are very helpful and courteous and will do their best to make your stay comfortable. The food is excellent as well (barring the pasta) and the hotel is visited by many people just for the food they serve. All in all highly recommended!

A wonderful place to be

Posted 24 Mar 2018
We had the best experience staying at the Kings Cliff. The property is located in the hills with a fantastic view on the valley. The rooms are beautiful, clean and cosy, equipped with a chimney that was fired up every night. The restaurant serves good food and is a nice location to dine. The Kings Cliff has a very friendly and professional personal. We felt welcomed and always helped here. The housekeeper, Shekar, was very attentive, friendly and reliable. It was a pleasure having him around! He made our stay very pleasant. But also the desk staff, especially Girish, have helped us a lot with our visits, cabs and bookings. We felt being in very good hands and enjoyed our stay at the hotel to the fullest. Absolutely recommended!
