A classic Bavarian hutte

Posted 16 Aug 2016 on Wotif
Pros: The people were amazing. From Stefan (mein retten) who was always on had for refreshments after an energetic climb up the hill, to Peter, Camille, the
Cons: The floors are a bit squeaky, the webpage doesnt describe the hutte system, so I booked thinking this was a regular hotel. Really glad I did!
Location: So much around here. This is near Obermeiselstein, Fishen, and is the heart of the beautiful Allgau, walking, history, and culture abound.
Staying here was a fluke, and one of the highlights of my three visits to the Allgau region, in fact I would go as far as to say my three trips to Germany. I should point out I enjoy climbing in the mountains of NZ, so the rolling hill country that this area covers was a great relaxing way to meet both the country and the people. The hutte system allows people to stay in near hotel like accomodation, while being able to enjoy either short or long walks with views to suit. Stop after an a couple of hours for bratwurst (or food of your choice) and beer/wine. Once the hour long break drinking kicks in then keep stumbling along in a gentle circuit back to Wannenkopf, another hutte, or the next cafe. I came across 3 in 1 hour of walking! On arrival back at the hutte be greeted by wine or beer, sit outside in the sun looking at great views, chatting with friendly locals while you cool down from your walking, and shower/wait for the dinner bell call of "abendessen". After being served a three course meal the evening extends with an ever shrinking group of stayers, as the families drift away and the couples and singles are left chatting about where you are from, what you could do next, and of course you torture them with your own bad Deutsch. Awesome people from an awesome country. A warning, you cannot drive to a hutte, you must park you car at the road and walk. In this case a 15 min steep up hill walk. So you need a small pack, I had my sons school bag for clothes/toiletries.

Uriger Berggasthof mit guter Küche

Posted 14 Feb 2016
