My wife and I ventured to Sau Bay around the 20th of June, shortly after it opened. At a high level, we give the place 6 out of 5 stars! At the top of our experience was the incredible staff that greeted us and took care of us throughout our 5-day stay. We had previously spent a couple of weeks at some other resorts in the Mamanuca islands, and while those were also great, Sau Bay stood head and shoulders above them in terms of service, privacy, and overall experience. Sau Bay is a small resort with only a few cottages. It never feels crowded and during our stay the staff outnumbered the guests by about 2 to 1! By the time we left the staff felt like family. Eunice, Sara, William, Carl, Letu, John and little John banded together to give us an experience we won’t forget. Sara took care of making sure we had great dining experiences and also gave us fantastic seaside massages along with herbal therapy to help me ease my sinuses (from a head cold, which unfortunately kept me from diving). Carl and Letu took care of our boat transportation from the island of Taveuni, and also led us on our snorkeling expedition on the rainbow reef. Having snorkeled and dived many locations around the tropics since the 80’s, I can say this was right up there with some of best, unlike some of the locations where much of the coral is dead and the fish are no longer abundant. We also did some snorkeling on the house reef. My recommendation for snorkeling right near the resort is to take a kayak

The quiet location was perfect for us. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. The bay was calm and perfect for snorkelling right from our Bure. Our day of taking a boat to snorkel at rainbow reef and picnic on a sandy beach was the icing on the cake.

Feels at home. Nice staff. Meals and boat transfers a bit expensive.

Bula Hasan Thank you for your comments - we really do want our guests to feel 'at home' when staying at Sau Bay. Unfortunately with our remote location food and fuel are expensive. Vinaka Carol

Feels like your dream home

Posted 4 Dec 2016
Stayed here for our honeymoon for around 10 days and we can't say enough good things about this place. The view, food, staff, activities, and the dogs were lovely and we miss everyone and everything already! Where do we start...the diving is spectacular with the dive master, Carl. Hiking is a pleasant surprise with the dogs (4) who led the way and were such friendly hosts! Snorkeling with gorgeous house reefs is amazing and the kayaking along mangroves is out of this world. The housekeepers were so sweet and diligent--they make the beds with fresh flower decorations twice everyday and coming home to it puts a smile on our faces every time. The consistent supply of cookies and milk in the pantry is delightful and delicious, as with every meal. The list just goes on and on... You HAVE to come stay at Sau Bay if you are visiting Fiji! We hope to be back some day!

Sau Bay is a hidden gem. It has the best service from the kindest people. Snorkeling right off the beach is world class. Go there before it gets discovered

Paradise in Fiji

Posted 4 Dec 2015 on Hotels
Sau Bay Resort is paradise in a secluded part of Fiji, with easy access to the best snorkeling we have ever done -- Rainbow Reef. The bure/cottages are elegantly decorated for an island retreat. The amenities are first class. The flowers are abundant in and outside of the accommodation and public spaces. Food is excellent; staff attentive; scenery is lush jungle and blue water. We rank this resort at the top of our list of preferred accommodations worldwide.

Fiji seclusion

Posted 5 Jun 2015 on Hotels
Accessible only by boat, this Fiji oasis offers the ideal underwater long dreamed of, experience. Rainbow reef offers divers many dive spots and even snorkelers can enjoy the shallow, clear, colorful, soft coral reefs and fish. Rooms are well thought, modern and a wonderful coffee/tea bar with refrigerator to cool milk and water. Oh, the outdoor showers are fabulous! But the best part was the people . Sera took care of us. She was there to order our preferences for food, provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, teach us about coconut , make me a broom from coconut frond, accompany me while snorkeling in Sau Bay, and she was a real champ getting up with us at 4:30 am to hunt crabs. Kiti plays the guitar, he has a wonderful voice and he shares kava. Vee is a wonderful chef , she is such a talented lady, she makes you smile. The owners Carol and Nigel have great stories to tell and give their all to make their Sau Bay a great experience , a tough job without infrastructure . Kudos to all.

Superb and very special

Posted 26 Apr 2015
Pros: I cannot fault anything! If you are after a holiday in a quiet, secluded location and just need to unwind and recharge, this is the place to go.
Cons: Heavier curtains on the cottage front windows for extra privacy would be ideal.
Location: The location is pristine and very secluded. To explore outside of the resort you will need to do day tours, which are provided by the resort.
An excellent retreat. The staff were incredible, the facilities were perfect. The cottages were immaculate. The location, hospitality, food, activities and spa treatments were all of the highest quality. This retreat well and truly exceeded my expectations.

Leider kein Paradis!

Posted 19 Mar 2019 on Hotels
