We were not able to stay at the Hotel Gigur, since Americans are not allowed to travel to Iceland and our airline cancelled our trip. I know they have a no-refund policy, but I would have thought there might be some forgiveness given the situation with the pandemic. Despite several tries, I was unsuccessful in getting a refund.

I had to cancel my trip to Iceland, due to the coronavirus. I had ten different accommodations lined up, and was able to receive a full refund from 7 of them and a voucher from 2 of them. Hotel Gígur was impossible to get ahold of! I tried emailing them twice and Expedia called them over 6 times on my behalf and were never able to receive an answer. It was only after the date of my scheduled stay, that I received word from them. They refused to give me a refund, even with the current conditions. I look forward to rescheduling my trip to Iceland for next summer, but will not work with this hotel moving forward. Their lack of communication during this time, even with ample time to respond, was disappointing.

Dear Meg, You did not contact us regarding this booking until after we told you we would have to move it. Then there was only a week until your arrival. We are dealing with a lot of similar requests and that is the reason for delays in your answer. Very small room .... We stayed there for 3 nights and only clean our room once even we request them to do so. Only positive side the staffs were friendly

We liked the location but the food in the restaurant was poor. I had to send my lasagne back as it was cold.

Nothing is right (apart from the location)

Outdated, small rooms, small beds, tiny bathrooms, smelly water from the tap/shower, no tv in the room, expensive for what it is. Luckily it's one of the only hotels in the area, it's all about location location location.

The water smells of sulphur because the Lake Mývatn area has a lot of geothermal activity (which is one of the areas main attraction) but is perfectly safe to use. The hotel is on Lake Mytavn and the pseudo craters. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative is that the room was very small. Beds were comfortable. Good selections at breakfast

Big breakfast.

Enjoyed our stay. Beds were comfy and staff was pleasant and accommodating. We had a twin room with private bath that was small. The hotel is located in front of the pseudo craters which was worth visiting. We ate dinner in the restaurant. The view was very nice. I had the trout with mixed vegetables. The serving of trout was amply, however the serving of vegetables was skimpy. There is a variety of options on the menu. The breakfast bar was large and had a lot of options. Something for everyone. I would stay here again.
