Paradise just outside of Pemba

Posted 16 Jan 2019 on Hotels
A breath of fresh air after a less than eventful trip to Ibo. I booked a night at Ulala to be close to the airport for my flight. After arriving I was truly disappointed that I only booked one night. From arrival to departure everything at Ulala was fabulous. When you arrive at the property you can hear and feel the ocean breeze and its exactly what I was looking for. Due to no receiving the email the property sent regarding our arrival the manager was not on site when we arrived but the staff who were there checked us in quickly and offered a nice welcome drink which was definitely needed after the ride from Ibo. We were starving when we arrived and wasn't aware of needing to order a lunch in advance but the property whipped up what is probably the best vegetable quiche I've ever had. It actually tasted even better than it looked which had me drooling as soon as it was placed on the table. I wanted to snap a photo because it looked so pretty but in my haste to taste I forgot to capture a picture. The manager for the property arrived fairly quickly and he to was just as amazing as the other staff. From lunch, to our room, to dinner, then breakfast everything just got better and better. If you are looking for a relaxing place with great food, great beach, great beds, and great staff, while in Pemba, Ulala is definitely the place to be. I look forward to visiting again.

Paradise!

Ulala is perfect for retreating along the beautiful coast of Pemba. The beach is breathtaking, unspoilt, private and safe. George and his team ensured our stay was very comfortable. We highly recommend the excellent food and caipirinhas!

Very quiet and isolated thus extrem Good for relaxing. If you like to connect to Real Afrika go there by car to be flexible.

Perfect stay at Ulala!

Posted 15 May 2016
Sending a massive thank you to Georges and Emma for such a fantastic week at Ulala. The accommodation was lovely, and the hotel is beautiful - overlooking a spectacular beach. Special thank you to all the cooks as the food was a highlight, and to all the staff at Ulala, who couldn't have been more helpful or more friendly. I'd love to come back.

Nice beach.

Posted 4 Nov 2015
Pros: The location. They are child friendly. The style of construction, with coconut leaves roof.
Cons: The food and the service. They should accept credit cards.
Location: Nice beach, far from a restaurant or even a small town, for a couple of days is fine.
The staff needs a lot of training. The hotel is in a very nice location, but you only can eat in the hotel, as there is nothing good around. The problem is that you have to tell at breakfast if you are having dinner, because the don't want to have nothing cooked in advance. not even a salad.

Hi ! Thank you for this review. We now accept Visa credit cards. While you were staying with us, you have told us a few times you were used to more luxurious hotels. Please let us remind you that we are only a 3 star lodge. Our staff comes from the villages around. It is an agreement we made with the village chiefs when we set up Ulala Lodge. They are hard working and enthusiastic. Most of our guests praise their training. We ask after breakfast if you wish for some lunch. And we ask our guests to tell us before 5PM if they do not wish to have dinner. We are a small midrange resort, with only 6 rooms. We do not wish to cook needlessly and waste food. Thanks again for staying at Ulala Lodge !
