There are 3 hotels in the Somerset group. This is away from the beach. Its up a very steep narrow concrete road. Its dark in the night and only 1 vehicle can go up or down this dark narrow road. The hotel staff are really nice. The rooms are a bit dated. The breakfast buffet was a joke as compared to hotels we have stayed in colombo. There was no buffet. Just a plate of fruit and eggs if you asked. Better stay is closer to the beach and somerset has a hotel right on tne beach

Not worth what we paid for tbh! No wifi in the room, weak wifi in the lobby. Staff were nice and polite; decent breakfast- not too many choices. Rooms could have been slightly bigger- has all the basic items. The hotel looks fancy from the outside with the pool but thats about it.

We had s really large room and en-suite with a great view. Breakfast was good and all staff very polite and friendly. It would have been good to have rails for hanging towels and the towels were a bit tatty.

Pool is great, lounge chair area is rather small but it was never full of people we were always able to get a sunbed. We stayed 6 nights, the staff were all very helpful with questions. They say breakfast is at 730am, but that really means 8am. Breakfast was nice, freshly cooked eggs every morning. Location was great, slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the main road so its nice and quiet and relaxing, but only a 2-5 minutes walk to beach and main area, restaurants etc. Would be nice if you got some hand towels in the bathroom. Overall, happy with our stay!

Somerset is a wonderful hotel although staff could be better. The recepcionist was very nice until suddenly he wasnt, and a conversation about tuktuk prices turned very hostile and uncomfortable. Breakfast was dissapointing and wifi simply did not work. Thus, value for money is not so good. Still, the pool rooms anf bathroom were all amazing.

Room for improvement

Posted 24 Mar 2018
+New contemporary, sleek, hotel with fresh feel. +Nice pool with scenic view. +good location for food and the beach - Everywhere is a close walk or a short tuk-tuk ride away. +breakfast was fine (and they provided a takeaway breakfast when we went for our early safari) -2 single beds pushed together rather than a double bed -hoteliers seemed to lack experience - it's a newly built place but, ‘adequate’ rather than 'good’ customer-service is my take-away feeling. -room not airtight. Many bugs, including mosquitoes, made it into the room on 3 out 4 nights (climbing on us when we were in bed) although we were careful not to leave the room quickly and not leave the balcony doors open. -wi-fi frustratingly weak/slow sometimes. -random playing of loud music by hotel staff info evening, even when all guests had retired to their rooms -although stated as being included in room, there is no bottled water -there were numerous blackouts at the hotel that lasted 5 seconds during our stay. Something must be wrong with the electricity set up.

Comfortable and welcoming

Posted 22 Jan 2018
Pros: Quiet, comfortable and helpful staff
Cons: More easily visible signage to property on main road.
Location: Narrow access to property. Once there surrounded by the green foliage of nearby hills. Peaceful.
Stayed for a night when attending a Wedding at another location in Mirissa. Reception staff were welcoming and kept in touch as we couldn't find the hotel easily. Made a good recommendation for getting to and from the wedding. Fresh woodapple drink on arrival with a good variety of fresh fruit for breakfast to include freshly squeezed passionfruit juice.

Great Value for Money!

My friend and I stayed at Somerset for 3 nights. Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the pool, which we absolutely loved. We could reach the (infinity) pool through our balcony (a simple climb over the wooden railing, hehe). As expected of a new hotel, the room condition was good - very, very clean and lovely interiors. The bedding, matress and pillows were super comfy. Of course, it also meant that a few essentials, like the vanity kit, coffee maker, mini bar, were missing. I am sure the management would fix this in the coming weeks. The hotel is not exactly close to the beach and restaurants, nor is it far. It is situated uphill, so you will have to walk about 5-15 minutes to reach the beach and popular restaurants. Tuk tuk is an option, but may not be easily available at certain times due to the hotel's location. We managed to get a regular tuk-tuk driver who lived just a min away from the hotel. Perhaps the hotel could look into getting a tuk-tuk for its guests just for short commutes. The breakfast was basic yet acceptable. We also tried their dinner (we chose to have Western) and it did not disappoint. A bit pricey though. The staff was very courteous and helpful. They arranged a car for our trip to Ella at a very reasonable rate. Having stayed at a few hotels during our trip, I would say Somerset is well worth the money spent.
