Some pluses and minuses: The island and resort are beautiful with lovely beaches, excellent snorkeling, and friendly staff. We stayed in an overwater bungalow that was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful outdoor area and plunge pool. We loved the homemade bath products which smelled and felt great. Our one issue with the bungalow, which was a big one, was that the air conditioning didn’t work properly. We had it on the highest/coolest it could go and were still sleeping without covers and sweating during the night. They came several times to “fix” it and they always left saying it was working correctly, but it was never repaired. We were extremely disappointed by this given the amount we were paying.
The food was hit and miss. There were some delicious dishes and some bad ones. We had a $22 chocolate mouse that was essentially two spoonfuls of chocolate jello pudding. The fish dishes were excellent. The restaurants always felt extremely crowded and the food/drink service at beach and pool was very poor.
They offered some fun tours, but we sadly weren’t able to do any of them. We actually chose the resort because they offered a whale shark excursion that looked fun, and we even messaged the resort a month in advance to try to book it, but were told we could only book upon arrival. On arrival we were put on a waiting list and, despite the tour operating nearly every night (sometimes twice), we never got called to do it (despite checking in with them daily).

Thank you for your constructive feedback on your recent stay with us. Whilst we are extremely happy about the positives, we are very apologetic about the negatives. We will look into all of the points in detail and ensure we work on fixing them with immediate effect through constant training.
For the air conditioning in the room, we believe that one of the doors leading to the outdoor patio may have been partially open, as no fault was observed in the unit of that room. We however regret that the incident has impacted your experience.
Whale shark is an extremely popular activity at COMO Maalifushi. As it is difficult to predict the visibility of the sharks, we keep this on a first come first serve basis, and do everything within our reach to ensure all our guests have an equal opportunity to experience the activity. We also do our utmost to manage to send through all our guests who have signed up for the activity. We sincerely apologize for not making it through with you for this experience as the requests were overwhelming during the time.
Thank you once again and as mentioned, we will do what it takes to work on the negatives. We hope to have the opportunity in welcoming you back to the island and offering an experience worth reliving.
