Budget stay

Posted 23 Nov 2016 on Hotels
We hanged room after first night as it was adjacent to reception and just a window between us. Very noisy but was fine after that. Economy accommodation but suited our needs. Staff friendly but a little intrusive at tim3/

A good base to discover the Maldives

Posted 1 Nov 2016
Pros: The Picnic Inn is located pretty close to the dock where the ferry arrives, it's only a few minutes walk. Upon arrival I've met one of the stuff members who took my luggage and led me to the guesthouse. At the guesthouse I've been greeted with a cold beverage and the customer relations manager, Nahid checked me in swiftly and ensured that I've settled in my room OK. This is a small guesthouse with about 10 rooms, mine looked on the courtyard. It was a basic room with a double bed, wardrobe, vanity table with mirror, a fridge and a telly. The room and the bathroom seemed fairly clean and it was cleaned daily. I had breakfast included - don't expect too much: for breakfast you can have bread, pancakes, sometimes baked beans, sometimes schredded coconut with fish, sausages, egg, butter and jam. Most mornings we had some fruit as well. Coffee and tea is available throughout the day. The stuff is nice and one of them is very attentive, but the food is mediocre. I had dinner 3 times, and usually i found that they had almost nothing that was listed on their huge menu (which should be shortened) so I usually opted for some prawn noodles and it was OK. Big positive: Nahid is really looking after the guests and tried to offer excursion deals and activities. I was also a bit concerned regarding how safe and secure the place would be (there is no safe in the rooms or at reception), but I felt completely safe there, and my belongings were safe too. They provide snorkeling gears too.
Cons: Despite the fact that the stuff is helpful, it seems that most of them have no hospitality experience and therefore needs to be reminded of certain things: they routinely forgot to replenish the toilet paper in my bathroom, which was rather annoying. I had a bottle of water per day included in my deal - I always had to ask for it too. When I dropped my towels on the floor signaling that I needed new ones, I only received one. This are a bit irksome small details. Also I ordered scrambled eggs a few mornings, but they smelled of gasoline, I couldn't eat them. Once I complained they did something to it, and the issue got resolved. And finally: the water pressure is not great, which i didn't mind, because got severely sunburnt on day 1, so didn't wan't a water pressure that would massage my back, but a bit more water pressure would have been nice.
Location: Check out the Fine Bakery, Suzy's local bakery. Lovely place!

Nice, but there was no breakfast in last day!!!

Posted 16 Sep 2016
This hotel was good - location is fine.. The same breakfast everyday sometimes make it boring - but food quality was good. Aside note - They took out the breakfast in the last day with no reason. I was embarrassed to ask them. I was up at 09 AM - and it should remain to 09:30 AM.

Maafushi dreams

Posted 29 Aug 2016
Stayed 4 nights. The hotel was a Maldivian home. Lots of open air spaces within the hotel. It rained a bit, so this was a nice perk. It didn't feel like being cooped up in a square box room. Staff was attentive and easy to work with. Food was good, especially the curry!!! Nice restaurant around the corner, and the lady next door sells original art that she paints. The snorkel instructor was kind and very helpful. Hassan helped me contact my next stay when the ferry cancelled due to weather. He was great and very helpful. Will definitely stay again.

Great stay, but staff a little pushy

Posted 28 Jan 2015 on Hotels
After such a long flight and a 90 minute ferry ride, I was excited to just relax and get my vacation on. When we checked in the person working the front desk said that they thought we had cancelled our trip. I don't know where that came from. They put us in another hotel for one night because they oversold the property. I didn't mind that, however, we checked back into Picnic Inn the next day and was put into our room. I really liked the ambiance there as it was laid back and relaxed. The people working there were really nice until we were ready to check out. My traveling partner gave some tips to some of the staff working there as we were happy about the services. As he explained that it was from BOTH of us, they looked at me and asked for tips as well. I was puzzled as we just explained that the money was from both of us. One of the workers said, "no, that's his tip. Where's yours?" I was upset as we thought that the tips were more than sufficient. We walked out with a sour taste in our mouth as one of them was getting a little more aggressive about it. I walked away.
