This was by far the WORST experience ever. The rooms are all on the second floor. After I found out about this, I texted the owner to see if there is an elevator, as I was traveling with my 83 yr old mom. He said no, but there was one flight of "easy" stairs -- we got there and there was a curved staircase with narrow steps -- NOT easy. When we got there, we found out that our room (Suite #1) has a detached bathroom -- that is not even on the same floor! And no, there's no toilet on the same level as the bedroom. The owner could have mentioned that, but didn't. We got there and realized the situation, and told the owner that my mom couldn't do this -- she gets up 3-4 times every night to use the bathroom and can't do these stairs. We asked if we could get a refund, and we would try to find another hotel. He said, "it's not my fault that you didn't read the fine print" -- and refused to give us our money back. So word to the wise -- the room may not have a bathroom on the same floor (which is NOT in the fine print), and the owner will not have any flexibility at all. My mom ended up falling down his stairs and had a head injury. The owner and management were informed -- no one even was concerned enough to see how she was doing. We left, and went to a Hampton Inn which is right around the corner. There, everyone was incredibly nice, the rooms were clean and it was just night and day...

I am sorry for your bad experience. You booked a beautiful room at a beautiful 173 year old mansion (1851 built) for yourself and your 83 year-old mother who has trouble with stairs. Expedia clearly states that the bathroom is "Detached and Private" from the room. This is all that Expedia will allow... it is a check-box for the owners. On the Pepin Mansion reservation website it also clearly states that the bathroom is detached, private and down a flight of stairs. I receive many calls from guests before booking to ask questions about the bathroom location, some choose not to book and I understand this. If another room is available at check-in we always offer the alternative at no charge,We, as most small B&Bs have a 14 day cancellation policy. Even after txt exchanges during the day about "no elevator", late check-in procedures, and where the bath is located you elected to occupy the room. And it is the Mansion Main Staircase, 5' wide, straight and carpeted, not curvy as any can see from our website pictures. From 10pm to 1:30am my on-site innkeeper was assisting as best as possible and I am getting calls and txts about issues with the bath, needing to leave, and demanding a refund. The refund would have to come from Expedia, not the Pepin Mansion.I can understand having to relocate and am fully supportive of this and think the guest made the right choice but it was still the guest's decision to choose this B&B, occupying the room, and knowing our cancelation policy. This room (with detached bath) is rented 300 days a year and we have a 9.3+/10 rating at our B&B. My on-site Innkeeper helped as best she could and was also there to help when the mother took a tumble.I will on occasion make a concession on a cancellation if we can re-rent the room or maybe give a gift certificate. But in this case, not fully reading the Expedia room description does not warrant a concession. I'm glad the Hampton Inn could accommodate.

The Pepin Mansion is hands-down the most unique accomodation experience you will have Less than 5 minutes after booking Taylor called me personally to work out arrival and accomodation details. If you are questioning whether this unconventional venue is right for you... don't...book immediately. In a world where overnight stays are so commoditized that it's impossible to differentiate one chain hotel from the next, the experience at the Pepin reminded me what it means to be accommodated. The place positively reverberates with history, old world craftsmnaship and classic American hosiptaility. Thank you Taylor, for stepping me back into the past, to remind me what is so absent from the present.

Rooms were beautiful. Bathroom was freezing cold and there was no way to heat it.

The Penin Mansion B&B epitomizes the reasons we love to stay at B&Bs: It is a one of a kind historic home in a quiet area of similar historic homes which has been painstakingly restored by the owner who is welcoming, friendly, informative and who serves a delicious and elegant breakfast all for a reasonable price. I hope it continues to offer that great hospitality to many other appreciative visitors while serving New Albany so well.
