Barely a hotel
Posted 16 Feb 2020 on HotelsMy visit started with an arrival at about 4pm, only to find the door locked and no answer on the phone number provided on the door despite multiple calls. In desperation I went around back--perhaps a service person could be found. By chance the kitchen boss was coming up the stairs from the basement. I explained and she apologized profusely and was very helpful. She said I should have been given an entry code or lockbox info so I could get the key to my room...Anyway, I was lucky.
She told me breakfast started at 7 if I wanted it; since I probably didn't I asked if I could just get an espresso--no problem. That was true the next morning but the one after that, and another one, the door to the restaurant was locked; later I was told that was because nobody was expected for breakfast; they should tell all the guests that (the hotel literature simply says breakfast starts at 7...).
But what finished off my respect for the hotel was when I came back to the room around 6pm a couple days later and found the door ajar, and a key in the door (not my key). Yikes. I went down and spoke to the bartender--poor woman since it had nothing to do with her. She called someone and was told it was the room maid....
The room itself had a table but no desk and the table was not near an outlet...not convenient for working.
What I can say that I liked was 1) some people (when they were available) were very helpful and 2) the espresso (when I could get one) was very good.

Great place
Posted 17 Feb 2019 on HotelsA great little hotel, perfectly situated on the main street with access to several good restaurants and supermarkets nearby. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything I needed. If you want value and homeliness in a central setting then this is the place for you.

Affordable hotel, Clean room, Friendly Staff
Posted 29 May 2018I stayed here in December 2017 while I was visiting Leipzig for 34C3.
The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from Bayerischer train station, manageable if one is traveling light. Check-in was smooth, but be aware that there are no elevators in the building. I found the room clean and well furnished. The road that the hotel is on is generally peaceful with the occasional street tram passing by. I got good night's rest every night. I did not purchase the breakfast though I did happen to have breakfast at the restaurant one day, and it was excellent.
I highly recommend Hotel ViaCity, and would like to pass on a huge thank you to the restaurant staff for their assistance in getting in touch with hotel staff when time came for me to check out.

o.k. place, but not really a hotel --
Posted 14 Jan 2016 on HotelsMinimally staffed reception, more often closed than not. When the reception was closed, a sign said we were to go to the restaurant downstairs -- but the staff there did not really know anything, they provided breakfast, and I suppose one could pick up or drop off the key there, but when we had a problem with the wifi, they had no idea what to do.

Great Location at a Great Price
Posted 20 Oct 2015
Pros: It's full of old-world charm and character & a nice contrast to the minimalist style that is prevalent. The rooms have all modern amenities.
Cons: The hotel does not have an elevator.
Location: Very nice location in a fun neighborhood full of restaurants and a few minutes walk to the Old Town, sites and shopping.
Old World style hotel in a great location of Leipzig, a few minutes walk to the Old Town, sites and shopping. Hotel is from 1900 and beautifully restored. Rooms have all the modern amenities.

Overnight stay
Posted 14 Jun 2015
Pros: Cheerful staff, and clean if basic amenities.
Cons: Tea/coffee facilities in room, stronger bulb in the bathroom.
Location: A lot of bars and restaurants in the area so quite a lively area although probably student orientated as Uni not too far away. 10mins walk to centre.
On a hot day, the hotel was quite a long way out from the centre of Leipzig so a good 40min walk from the Hauptbahnhof (although it is possible to take a tram). Hotel location is suffering due to the extensive roadworks going on in the street right outside (replacement of tram tracks) so it was not easy to walk on the pavement, and its restaurant is next door to the hotel itself (need to come out of the hotel and back into the restaurant from the street). Anyway, we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist (owner?) who spoke good English and showed us to our room, which was actually a suite (although we had booked a double bedroom only). Room clean if spartan, but the bathroom had a very dim light (10W?) being the only real fault. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room but there was a coffee making device outside in the hall. A lot of street noise into the bedroom due to the number of restaurants nearby with street drinking/eating, and trams noisy too, so we were not keen on opening the windows at night until after midnight when it quietened down.
