Remoteness, great food at the latch string restaurant.
Lobby was fantastic. Great nearby waterfalls.

The property is beautiful and the staff very friendly. Our room 121 was nice but the transition strip from the bathroom to the carpet is missing so you step on the tack strip which is nails. The toliet is very low and the tolit seat doesn't stay up. That’s a problem if you're a man.

You should know before you book that this lodge is part of a resort which features side-by-side Utility Vehicle rentals and tours. The lodge is adjacent to the UTV rental place, where in the evenings they are power-washing the muddy vehicles until late night (10:30 pm /- ) to get them ready for the following day. This is a noisy operation and (in my opinion) not in keeping with the overall setting. We had expected a quiet mountain resort. Other than the UTV operations the place is quite nice in a ski-lodge sort of way, and the staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean. If you are interested in doing a UTV trip, this is your place. If not, stay in Spearfish at a nice hotel, have your meals in better restaurants (both will be less expensive than the Lodge and the adjacent restaurant). It is easy to drive into the Forest and explore the area with a picnic from Spearfish.

Love this Lodge. Short hike to a beautiful waterfall. Will definitely stay again.

This hotel was in a beautiful location near a couple of waterfalls and right across the street from a restaurant. Rooms were clean and spacious. Loved the nice lobby with a fireplace. Would stay again!

We enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The location was beautiful. We especially enjoyed a drink by the wonderful wood burning fire.
