Badly situated

Posted 3 Jul 2022 on Hotels
The beach is not made to swim or for families, only good for kite surfing. Lots of sargasses weeds along this coast. The path to access the property is really bumpy and in bad condition . Fortunately, the residence is on Google map so not too difficult to find even though there is some road work in the middle of the village that prevent access from the main road. The staff is nice and helpful, but being there in June (low season) everything else is closed: the restaurant of the residence, the play structures for the kids and also most of the restaurants and markets in Le Vauclin ..even with very few tourists there, the wifi was really slow and the accommodation really really small. Thankfully, there was A/C.

The property is sparse, with owners not even providing toilet tissue or salt. Getting too and from rooms with small children and lots of luggage is difficult.

Sargassum on the beach made for a miserable stay

Posted 24 Mar 2019 on Hotels
This particular hotel is located off a beach suffering from an invasion of Sargassum. It is seaweed with a very pungent smell of rotting fish and swamp water. We arrived late at night on Tuesday March 12, 2019, and although we did notice the smell, it wasn't until the sun was beaming on the beach that the smell became absolutely unbearable. By 8am the following morning, the smell had caused me to throw up 4 times. After speaking to the manager of the resort, we were offered another room in the property further away from the beach yet still within the confines of "the village". I turned down the offer as the smell was wafting through the entire property. We checked out before 10am after the manager offered to reach out to their offices in Paris to discuss obtaining a partial refund. To add insult to injury, I tried getting in contact with them with regards to items we left in the closet. I have yet to hear back from them. Unfortunately, the nearby beach was completely covered with Sargassum, the stores along the beach were all closed, and although there were a number of workers clearing up the Sargassum, the smell was impossible to mask. I would not recommend this hotel, nor do I find it just to have this property listed on hotels.com without a proper disclaimer as to the issue they're dealing with. Now we are out a couple hundred dollars and two days of our vacation were ruined as a result of this oversight. In hindsight I would've never stayed in this area of Martinique.

We feel very sorry you felt sick during your stay. Unfortunately, the effect of the sargassum depends on people. For instance, you were sick but other people were not in the Village. We hope you finaly liked the rest of your stay in Martinique.

Adequate stay

Posted 20 Mar 2019 on Hotels
We stayed at the Le Village de la Pointe for seven nights. The grounds were well kept, as well as the pool area which was nice. The three bedroom bungalow which was rented looked like a sea container with an attached patio. It was adequate, but nothing to write home about. Note that we had to ask two times to get the dirty towels/linens removed from the porch from the previous occupant. They do not provide much with the bungalow. We asked for a blanket; there were none. We asked for clean towels, we were told we had to wash what was left in the room. The only item they do provide is one roll of toliet paper! No hand soap, dish soap, paper towels.....etc. If you need WiFi, do not stay here. It was basically non existent except near the pool area. Upon my return I discovered they overcharged me by over $600! Hopefully this will also get resolved.

This property has one tiny unlit sign on the road noting the entrance down a bumpy dirt road. It’s confusing. Upon arrival in the evening our keys were waiting as described by the resort. The villa was clean but did not have sheets on 4 of the beds and no blankets come with any of the beds. All of the plastic shower curtains were ripped and hanging. The Villa needed a little update and tlc. Some replacement of a few things and a couple repairs would make a big difference. During the entire stay they did not have beach towels available. Each day they would tell us the towels were being laundered. The resort is located on a beach known for kite surfing. You can not sun bath or play on this beach. It’s covered with seaweed and smells horrible! The restaurants along the beach area are good. Speaking French is almost a must! It’s very challenging to communicate with anyone if you don’t. The biggest disappointed was when the property manager had arranged for us to take a family trip out on a catermaran and the night before we were informed they didn’t have room for us and it was our last day. He had three days prior where he could have contacted us and we potentially could have rescheduled but he didn’t. Poor customer service. We loved Martinique and would recommend visiting but would stay in another area like La Diamont or Le Marin.

Thank you very much for leaving a comment on your stay. We feel very sorry for all the customer services problems you faced. In the villas, we'll start a maintenance campaign in a few weeks in order to fix all the problems you mentionned. New beach towels have been received so we no longer have unavailability problems. Indeed, Le Vauclin is a small village of fishers, which suffers seaweeds waves as other places in the Atlantic coast of Martinique. It is a natural random phenomenum that we can't control. We hope you had a great stay and you'll come back to Martinique.
