Disappointing
Posted 13 Sep 2018 on HotelsThe hotel is very pretty from the outside but inside the finishings and furnishings were disappointing, all done probably in the 80s and very inexpensively. Our room looked nothing like the photos online. The restaurant looked good although we didn't eat there. What put us off the most was the unfriendly and unhelpful attitude of the proprietor. The door to the restaurant was always closed so we didn't discover the pretty little garden beyond till the last day when we were leaving. We did not feel welcome. Did I ever see the owner smile? I think not... It's also fairly noisy being just off the main street.

Hotel Le Cygne for a French experience of Dordogne
Posted 8 Sep 2011 on HotelsWell located by river Ezere and opposite Tourist Information Centre only a few mins riverside walk from town centre. Arrived mid evening to a very friendly welcome. Comfortable stay only let down a little by lack of ventilation in ensuite bathroom, steamy mirrors & evidence of mould. Individual character to each room.
Didn't use restaurant due to late arrival. Specialises in traditional local food (lots of duck!)
Breakfast room pleasant, high carbs breakfast i.e. no meats/cheeses/egg but good with fresh fruits/yogurts/juices/cereals/pastries & bread. Patron very friendly and efficient.
One night stay before camping at nearby site where daughter was working.
Le Bugue delightful, much less touristy than towns/villages on Dordogne. Excellent centre for area.
Don't miss Limeuil, any events organised by 'Bug Anim' e.g communal meal at farmers'evening market (Tues), St Louis celebrations/fireworks (late August), canoeing on river (Ezere for natural sights, Dordogne for Chateaux & cliff villages), local market (Saturday am for food, main market Tue).
Well located for prehistoric cave painting sites which, unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit.
