Lovely guesthouse and lovely owners

Posted 8 Aug 2015
Pros: Lovely, friendly owners who are obviously taking great care to update the property from the old village hall into this B&B, tea house and bar.
Location: Easy access to Ypres and many WW1 sites. After we checked out we went to Bruges- also an easy drive from this accommodation.
We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived even though the owners had not realized we had booked. They did their best to get the room ready quickly. They provided us with an evening meal and a complimentary drink. The guesthouse is lovely and very freshly modern. Breakfast was great and had a lovely selection of foods. The room was very warm, however, even with windows open. Noise from the road traffic may put off light sleepers but this is not the fault of the owners.

Good Breakfast!

Posted 16 Apr 2013 on Hotels
All good in the main. This hotel only accepts cash which was not stated anywhere in the booking conditions and caused us to make an unexpected trip to an ATM for more euros, very annoying. Parking is plentiful, near to the hotel, and free of charge which is so nice and convenient. Breakfast was wonderful. There's a church across the road whose bell rang through the night and a bit of road noise (our room looked out onto the main road); it was still cold out so we could close our windows and shut out the noise but I suspect that would cause lack of sleep in the warmer months. Very good location if you're on a tour of the cemetaries and such.

First choice B&B in Poelkapelle area, and further.

Posted 22 Sep 2012 on Hotels
A recently renovated building with high quality fittings with en suite bathroom with shower. The accommodation is on the upper two floors but a lift is available should you need it. Very ample breakfast with good choice is taken in the ground floor tea room where also cooked snacks are available through to early evening. This tea room is closed by 18.30 so there is no noise from there to spoil a quiet evening in. I took advantage of the bicycle hire, very enjoyable, safe country roads. Stijn and Nele are always available for attention but are not intrusive on your time. I fully enjoyed my five night stay and will certainly be back; there is no need for me to look elsewhere in the Ieper/Ypres area for B&B.

The perfect small Hotel!

A most enjoyable small Hotel, with customer satisfaction their number one priority! Stejn and Nele are superb hosts, and they go the extra yard to ensure you have a most enjoyable stay at the 't Oud Gemeentehuis. This is definitely one place you would want to go back to...

Exceptional B&B for battlefields and breweries

Posted 27 Aug 2012 on Hotels
Poelkapelle is right in the heart of West Flanders. We biked to 5 different breweries in the area and toured many WWI monuments. This B&B is brand new and Stejn and his wife were wonderful to us. The rooms were beautiful, internet good, and breakfast delicious. Sharing a couple of Belgian beers with Stejn the last night we were there was one of the highlights of my trip.
