We only had time to stay one night at Grasteinn, but it was truly wonderful! The cottage that we stayed in was very well-designed, very clean, and the owners had thought of everything that we might need. It was really perfect. Our 8-year old was so excited to meet the dogs, and he especially loved visiting the sheep house and meeting Athena and the rest of the flock. Breakfast the next morning was in the main house and was exactly what we'd hoped it would be--delicious, filling, and friendly. We couldn't have enjoyed it more--we hope to be back as soon as possible!

The owners were amazing. I had a small accident with a nail going through my hand (my own fault), and Hildur went out of her way to treat my wound, apply antibacterial cream, etc. - something way out of the normal job description of a property owner. Also, beautiful place, very comfortable, and fantastic breakfast. Highly recommend.

The room was beautiful and spacious. The owners were very courteous and warm, and breakfast included freshly baked homemade bread. It felt like we were part of their family and we wished we could have stayed longer.

Meet the real Iceland...
Posted 11 Jun 2021 on HotelsThis was an amazing experience. The family that owns/runs the guesthouse is very friendly and so knowledgeable in everything local. From sheep farming, local wildlife, geology of Iceland. You name it...and they happily share their knowledge. We had wonderful conversations with both. They are also very welcoming and allow usage of the kitchen, laundry (small charge) and are happy to help with anything you need. Such a different experience from staying at a hotel and definitely worth it.

Beautiful cottage in an incredible location. Hosts were great and the breakfast in the morning was an ideal start to the day. Unbeatable location far away from the crowds.
