I was visiting a friend volunteering for the Peace Corps just down the road so my location was critical. Was pleasantly surprised upon arriving at the White Sands resort. My room was well apportioned and very clean. It looked out through palms to a beautiful white sand beach and ocean. They even strung a hammock just outside my door which made for excellent down time. The road in is in pretty bad shape but they are looking to repair it. It adds to the rustic flavor! This is a very small and quiet resort There was no loud music or flurry of activity. It was wonderfully relaxed. The soon to be new owners have lots of fantastic plans to upgrade the property so I will be sure and return to check those out. I did visit the resorts further north and found them to be loud and rather cheesy. Bottom line is for the cost this is a wonderful place to stay in western Tonga.

The photos are exactly what you expect. Its a small resort with an amazing private beach. The owner was accommodating and it was so relaxing. You do need to bring your own food and drinks but there is a kitchen area to use. I loved it as its more laid back and back to basics then a full on resort and more private. I would definitely come back here again!

What a beautiful setting. I had the best view of Tonga Tapu from my deck, right by the water. The owners and staff are very polite, friendly and accommodating. I have stayed at a few different resorts, bed n breakfasts, lodges and backpackers since being in Tonga and I found White Sands to be the best and just what I needed. Booked in for a week and will be staying another week. Thank you Gloria, Marissa, Bessie and Richard for making my stay a very pleasurable experience indeed. Sunday Umu was great and tge sunsets from my deck...Exceptional. Arohanui Charmaine

This resort is more of an experience than a resort, and not the type that most travellers are expecting or desire. Imagine a 1990s car with rust, a broken radio, missing hubcaps, temperamental headlights, and an aweful noise for each action. That car is in the same family as this resort. Our room was first quite dirty with cob webs and bugs, with no working bathroom light (lamp on the floor as a replacement). We shared the room with ghekos, mice, and a colony of ants. The running water smelled foul, sometimes didn't exist, and the hot water heaters weren't always functional. We also initially didn't have bathroom towels provided (received them on the third night). There was a lot of false advertising, including no pool or conditioning, and the amenities on site are not what you'd expect from a resort located a long ways from a shop. We stayed 11 months after the cyclone reaked havoc on their property, but not much was restored. The place is quite worn down, the owners are friendly, but I was disappointed in the lost potential of the property. With some effort the beach could be free from pollution, the tables and chairs on the beach could be set upright and level, the guest rooms could be fixed up so they all close and the holes in the screen are patched up. There could be a little shop on site with water, non-perishable Digicel tu
