One of the best places in all of Namibia Great staff and guided hiking Outstanding birding and scenery Terrific accommodations Will definitely recommend! Road is not bad at all when compared to rest of Namibia so don’t let that deter you

Disappointing experience

Posted 3 Jun 2017
Pros: Beautiful location with large rooms looking onto open land.
Cons: Management of the place and the customer experience is in urgent need of attention.
Location: The place is very isolated which is part of its charm. There is nothing to do, you come for the experience.
We were very excited about going to Huab and had read great things about the place. Our initial experience was good although the place looked rather tired and dated. We did enjoy the guided walk and safari although animals were few. However by rhe second night the poor customer care became very apparent. We complained about dogs eating bones in the area where we were waiting to eat. We were told they always did that. The communal eating was fine the first night as there were quite a few guests but as guest numbers diminished we felt like intruders on the staff dinner. The conversations were mainly conducted in German and there was little attempt by most staff to include us. We did in fact leave after two nights as we simply did not want to be there any longer. This place has great potential but it requires serious management and updating to be anywhere near the luxury accommodation described on the web sites.

Away from it all, stunning location

Posted 5 May 2017
Off the beaten track, 45 mins from the main road, this remote, peaceful, traditional lodge will make you feel at home thanks to a warm welcome, communal meals and the friendliest of services. Because it is remote, one night definitely is too short. Be sure to arrive before sunset (the road is narrow and a bit tricky in places, you have to open 4 gates to get the lodge too) and stay at minimum 2 nights to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, the lovely pool, hot natural springs and the warm hospitality. Note: breakfast and dinner generally included. But everything else is extra (drinks, lunch, activities etc).

Remote lodge in Damaraland

Posted 23 Sep 2014
Pros: Good standard of accommodation and good and staff excellent - happy to impart their knowledge of flora and fauna.
Cons: Drives and excursions need improving as felt area covered was very small and guides duplicated information
Location: Isolated location but part of its charm. Not likely to travel elsewhere once you arrive
A remote location in a picturesque setting. Game is not the key driver here so don't expect to see Etosha like hers of animals. There's a chance to walk in the valley and learn about the flora with excellent and knowledgeable hosts. Birding good and the lodge has good reference material as well as Jan and Suzi's expertise. Game drives were a bit limited as terrain difficult - one will be enough. A lodge to unwind in, enjoy the surroundings and learn about animals / plant life you see elsewhere. Rooms spacious and spotless. Food good quality and meal times a social able event. Recommend a stop for 1/2 nights as part of tour around the country. Not likely to travel much when at lodge given it's 30 k or so from main road!

Relaxing lodge in the bush

Posted 22 Apr 2014
Pros: Rooms, beds, tasteful decoration, great food, peace and quiet, friendly staff
Cons: Nothing
Location: This lodge is deep in the bush - there is no 'nearby' - you need to go there, enjoy the bush, some game and relax
One of the best places we stayed in Namibia. Thatched bungalows nestled into the side of the hill, beautifully appointed, comfortable and ecological. Wonderful staff and great food presented by the charming Damara cooks. Great massage too - but also just peaceful bush. Will return.

Idyllic hideaway

Posted 20 May 2012 on Hotels
The lodge is a family run business and guests are treated like friends. everyone eats round a big table and gets to know one another; the food is excellent and prepared by the Damaraland cook who will tell you all about it, and the wines are carefully chosed by Jan, the owner. There is a natural hot spring spa in the middle of the bush and a small swimming pool. Jan is very knowledegable and whilst guiding guests around the farm is happy to share much of his knowledge. This place is definitely on my list for revisiting. The description of the rooms on the website does not do them justice. There is no mobile phone network but Wifi works in the rooms and the lounge and is pretty quick.
