Inauthentic and Profit Driven Homestay

Posted 25 Feb 2019 on Hotels
The host was mostly on his phone and did not seem interested in talking to us. When I told his wife that my partner and I were unmarried she gave a mean look that made me feel uncomfortable and like she was judging us without understanding the culture we come from. Besides the meals offered, nothing else was offered to really make it an authentic homestay which gives the whole experience the feeling of a very over-priced hotel. We ended up just sitting in our hut most of the time trying to use the WiFi which barely functioned. And on top of all of this the food made both of us sick with diarrhea, stomach cramps, and shivers. My partner also had a headache which could be unrelated but the food was definitely the cause of my sickness because I had diarrhea a few hours after each time we ate. The food tasted delicious but I regret eating it due to the sickness after. I would definitely not recommend this “homestay” to anyone because it is not an authentic homestay. We’ve both done homestays in Peru and Thailand and have never encountered this type of dishonesty like we have here. We were the only ones staying at the time so maybe they just didn’t care but the only cultural exchange besides the overpriced meals that we got was when he briefly showed us weaving techniques but then it was soiled when he tried to pressure us into buying the rugs and what not. I don’t really know what else to say but I just hope anyone reading this will choose somewhere more honest.

Dear Jade and Her Friend, Greetings from Chhotaram Prajapat's Homestay ! Thanks for your reviews in Expedia for our homestay. I am sorry to write honest about you at our homestay-: As you stayed at our homestay one night we pickup you from jodhpur city in morning at 7 Am and drive to our homestay and you had breakfast, you had lunch and dinner at our homestay. During your time dinner you said to me that you had best food in india at my homestay. Next day morning we made your bill and you don't want to pay for food and you comparing about food from city cheap street food. We serve you home cooked food at my home. You writing here about sick because we charge you about food. Please don't lie with others. Our 100% guest always enjoying food at our homestay so i don't think other guest will trust you. You spent most time in your room so how can we sit with you in your room. In our homestay we always welcome and we have families, couples and friends and our family love to welcome them. We even didn't show you how to make rugs so how we pressure you to buy ? We do our work if our guest interested to see our work then they can join but we never force to see. Overall you writing these all because we charge you USD 10 for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 2 people which you don't want to pay. Thanks & Best Regards Chhotaram Prajapat

Authentic rural homestay - not a hotel

Posted 28 Jun 2018
Pros: It's a life experience instead of a place to stay. You'll love the village kids running to say Hi.
Cons: Not a complaint, just realize that in summer it will be hot all day and night. There is hardly a shower and things are rustic.
Location: Outside of Jodhpur about 20 minutes. The main attraction is ordinary life in a village. There are some animals and pretty views.
This was our best experience in two weeks traveling. There is no proper A.C. so you might want to sleep outside like the family does. We played with the kids and cooked some bread over the fire. Dinner is the whole family sitting on rugs outside eating great farm food. We rode out to see antelope, flamingos, and a random monkey. Then we tried pottery the old fashioned way. We hiked to watch the sun set. This is a really nice family and a chance to see how people actually live, but if you like cushy hotels it may not be your thing. Great conversation with sons.

Wonderful Homestay close to Jodhpur

Posted 25 Feb 2018
Pros: The family takes time to connect with the guests, and makes every guest feel truly part of the family.
Cons: The hot water only comes out of the bottom spout for the shower
Location: Jodhpur is only 20-30 mins away
If you're looking for a place to stay in Jodhpur - think again and stay here instead. Our experience at this homestay was the absolute highlight of our trip. You cannot find a nicer family, and they make the guests feel part of the community! We were able to travel to Jodhpur during the day for a visit, and spend more time at the homestay in the evening.

A perfect countryside homestay......

Posted 12 Dec 2016 on Hotels
Prajapati's are great hosts! The place is out of the city, about an hour from Mehrangarh Fort, but our two night stay there was totally worth it. A perfect home stay, you almost live like the Prajapati family. The village safari was also very nice, we got to learn a lot from

Authentic, welcoming homestay

Posted 21 Jul 2016
Staying with Chhotaram and his family was a phenomenal experience. We were able to cook, play, eat, dress, and laugh in such an authentic setting. You truly are welcomed and treated as part of the family. While we were only able to stay for a single night, it was the most fulfilling experience we could have imagined - a village safari, desert sunset, amazing food and company. For anyone looking for an unforgettable time in India, this should be your first choice!

Favorite part of our trip to india!

Posted 21 Mar 2016
Pros: Family, food, beautiful village
Cons: wifi access in the rooms
Location: The village is beautiful. You may go on a village walk or jeep safari, or catch the sunset at a mountain nearby
We are so glad to have found this place through Tripadvisor! The perfect village/indian homestay experience we were looking for. The place is about 20km away from Jodhpur city, a bit tricky to find also since we arrived at night, but well worth the effort. The place looks just as good, if not better than in photos. We love the little huts- the place is great - good, clean, comfortable rooms (with warm blankets and clean bedding), a decent bathroom, great food, beautiful common areas and a warm and hospitable family. It is a perfectly-sized compound, enough room to walk around and enjoy. The wifi is available in the common area and not the rooms, which was a welcome change and opportunity to relax without technology. We arrived late night, around 11pm, but were welcomed very well, and served freshly cooked dinner. Chhotaram's wife, Mamata and sister-in-law cook delicious vegetarian food over a traditional stove and it is a pleasure to see. The food is tasty, every meal is a feast, they make sure we are 100% full and are very generous with servings. Chhotaram is an excellent host. Very personable, sincere and knows how to treat guests. We all loved our stay here, many thanks also to the nice family behind it. Our length of stay was just right - 3 nights and 2 full days, but I personally would've loved to stay longer and definitely wish to come back!

"True taste of rural living in Rajasthan"

Posted 7 Mar 2016
Location: Camel safari, walking tour of village, showcasing handicraft goods made in the village, their own carpet weaving area and other sightseeing facility.
I booked Chottaram`s home-stay with the anticipation of getting to experience the rural taste of Rajasthan and I was not wrong with my selection. Now settled overseas, but originally form eastern India am aware of the culture and traditional life of rural India and I am very happy that I selected this home-stay. They provide every facility that an urban dweller requires. Although there is no newspaper (hardcopy) but who needs when you have access to wifi. May be the food is not served on expensive china but the taste of food cooked on clay burner on wood fire makes food more tastier. Rooms are naturally ventilated and made with clad and straw chips making the room cooler on a hot day and pleasant on a cold day. Bed and blankets were clean. Finally, the hospitality of the whole family will get full marks.
