This was our favorite place we stayed throughout our two week trip on the Big Island and Kauai. The staff was very helpful and the room we stayed in was super cozy. It was private and relaxing. I will definitely recommend this place to others and be going back to stay next time I’m on the Big Island!

Nice Quiet, Comfortable, Expensive Inn

Posted 8 Jan 2019 on Hotels
This is a nice little Inn. Very comfortable and quiet. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Great WIFI. A few breakfast options. The only downsides is its out of the area for cafes, etc and was high priced (even by Hawaii standards).

Mahalo for your review! We are happy to hear our staff was helpful and you were comfortable during your stay! We're located in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Hilo, and recommend that visitors rent a car in order to make the most of their time in Hilo as attractions on the Big Island are spread out. It's important to us that our price matches the value of our space to guests; unlike many inns in Hilo, we have a hot tub, sauna, and recreation area for our guests' use which is why you may have found the price to be high. We hope you had a chance to use these facilities! Until next time, aloha!

It was too expensive. Also no smoking area. It was clean though. The breakfast needs more than what they have.

Mahalo for your review! We're sorry to hear you found our rooms to be too expensive, we do try to be reasonable while still being competitive with our pricing! As for breakfast at our inn, we provide vegetarian, continental-style fare--a quick complimentary option that only requires us to bake the fresh bread each morning. Our smoking area is right beside the porch where Annie likes to hang out, there is a receptacle there for butts. We hope you enjoyed the rest of the Big Island on your trip and that you get to return soon. Aloha!

Unique Experience Fit for Few Travelers

Posted 15 Jan 2018 on Hotels
This was not a good experience at all. For those that are looking for a very specific experience, this is the place for them. That experience includes loud car noises from the adjacent street, extremely loud frogs outside, and a detached, shared shower and bathroom. It is also far away from anything that you may want to do in the area. My wife and I were exhausted from our outdoor activities on Big Island and could not sleep. We actually went to a different hotel and sacrificed the cost of our reservation to sleep in an actual hotel.

Aloha, Thank you for your review. We are very sad to hear you had a disappointing experience at our bed and breakfast! We provide earplugs in each room to counter the sound of the coqui frogs at night, because we know it bothers some people. Yes we are a ten minute drive outside of Hilo town, and the districts of the Big Island are so sprawled out that we recommend to all our guests renting a car or familiarizing themselves with the Uber app or Hawaii taxi services. We do not know when your reservation was, but in most circumstances, we provide our few dissatisfied guests with at the very least a partial refund for their stay, even though our cancellation policy is strict. We genuinely want all of our guests to have a great experience on the island. Please, contact us if you feel you were treated unfairly! Again, mahalo for your review. A hui hou!

Friendly staff, clean but uncomfortable premises

Posted 23 Apr 2017
Pros: The fresh fruit growing in the yard, the friendly staff, the competitive prices, and the cleanliness.
Cons: Hooks on the walls for towels, microwave, lighting on interior stairs (one of us fell in the dark), and comfortable seating arrangements for guests.
Location: Barking dogs and crowing roosters, no place to walk. Loud frogs. Some loud traffic. It's in a remote neighborhood, so there are no local shops.
The staff was very friendly and the rooms were immaculate. However, there's no microwave on the premises, no places to hang towels in the rooms, and no comfortable places to sit. One week ago, they promised us a discount which has not yet arrived. We enjoyed eating the fresh fruit that was grown in the yard, and it was nice to have laundry facilities. Since this is quite a new establishment, I'm sure they're still ironing out the kinks in the business.

Thanks so much for the thoughtfulness and attention to detail in this review, we truly appreciate your feedback. We are so pleased to hear you had an enjoyable experience, were able to connect with our staff, and appreciate the cleanliness and affordability we offer. We do offer full use of our kitchen, including all the cooking and baking utensils one may need to make a fresh meal. We suggest our guests make full use of our laundry facilities, especially the dryer for their towels and swimwear, as Hilo is a very humid climate and we find that hang drying is often inefficient. We are very happy to hear that you were able to enjoy some of the delicious fruit from our property, as it is abundant with oranges, avocados, mountain apples, surinam cherries, noni fruit and mac nuts. Our location is more scenically located than many of our competitors, in between downtown Hilo and the Kaumana Caves, not a far drive from Mauna Kea. Coqui frogs and roosters are very prevalent in all of Hilo, while many find their night songs to be tranquil we do realize not everyone can easily adjust, so we do provide extra sets of earplugs for all of our guests. Our bed & breakfast is one of the newer ones here in Hilo, and we take great pride in our ability to learn and perfect the customer experience we offer with each and every guest. It does generally take 5-7 business days for discounts to process, we appreciate your patience and will be checking into the matter further for you. Mahalo and a hui hoi!

Wery nice B&B countryside lovely

Posted 21 Mar 2017
We came in late and did not get to meet owner in person. But we received text with detailed explanation of everything. When we get there we found nice room, there was nice notes and reminders all throwout the house, that made us feel welcomed and at home. We was able to use washer and dryer. It's in countryside so we heard loud nature noises but it's all was good and relaxing. In the morning we found breakfast in the kitchen very nice. I'd stay again if visit Big Island next time. In fact, we liked it better then Kona hotels.

Zen B&B walking distance from lava tube cave

Posted 7 Mar 2017
We loved this zen B&B- we were able to get right into the Aloha spirit. The property was beautiful, full of exotic fruit trees and plants. We liked that it is on the edge of the busy town, close to Rainbow Falls & the lava tube. On sunny days, we had views of Mauna Kea's summit from our bedroom. We enjoyed the clean room with the comfortable bed and good quality bed sheets, towels, robes and Netflix. The freshly cut anthurium flowers from the property added a luxury touch to the comfortable room. The B&B offered organic oranges and limes that were harvested on the property. They even offered macadamia nuts from the property that you can freshly crack yourself along with Kona coffee. Also, the access to laundry machine and a dryer as well as free laundry detergent was a nice plus and made us feel very comfortable.

Beautiful, clean property... but night noises.

Posted 27 Feb 2017 on Hotels
The property was nice, clean and conveniently located to Hilo (and the new ocean entry lava flow we had come to see). The ear plugs (multiple packages in the room and private half-bathroom) were definitely a heads up about the noise: between coqui frogs all night and the roosters that started at 3 am, plus the thin walls allowed every sound to travel from the other guests, doors closing throughout the house, and even car doors outside. My wife struggled to get any sleep, so if you are a light sleeper, this is not a good option for you.

Aloha! We are happy you enjoyed your stay and are sorry to hear about the distracting noises you experienced. Coqui frogs and roosters are infamous all over Hawai'i for their resounding calls. At your suggestion, we've taped down the doors so as to mitigate the loud sounds. We hope that if you stay with us in the future, you will have a more pleasant experience. Mahalo and a hui hou!

Very clean, friendly. Not a great location.

Posted 19 Feb 2017
The guesthouse is very clean and well appointed. The staff was very friendly. It has a well supplied kitchen. Breakfast was very basic. The beds are very comfortable and rooms come with tv, bath robes, ear plugs, etc. However the location is run down in a neighborhood far from town, complete with barking dogs, rooster, and car noise from the main road.

Aloha! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Eleven minutes from the center of downtown Hilo, we are happy to offer accommodations away from the bustle of town and close to the caves, waterfalls, rivers and natural features of the island. Hope to have you again, a hui hou!
